What are your favorite tongs for bladesmithing? I just had some more made for me by Bob Patrick. I have yet to try the first tongs in the picture as I just picked them up yesterday. However, the rest represent what I have tried and liked.

So what do you guys like?

I have lots of tongs just none that work for blades. I plan on reworking them soon so glad you posted pics.

How would your last pair be used?

Thanks M Behnke

Allen, Bob Patrick is a wizard at the anvil or power hammer. He taught me how to make tongs at Tom Clark's a few years ago. Great guy!

I got a few pair of heavy duty tongs made by Steve Parker that I like, but my favs or the light, springy ones made by Off Center Forge.

I need to get a few pair from Bob at some point.

My favorite tongs are made by Glen at GS Tongs. He is living in Taiwan now, so no more GS tongs.... that sucks. I guess I'll have to try making my own.

Would structural rebar do well for tongs?

Here are a few pair that we use the most in making sharp and pointy things :D We make all of our own tongs unless we runa cross a piar cheap. We made all of these..The top pair are axe eye tongs. They were actually made from an existing pair of tongs I didnt really need. Been meaning to reforge them for years but never got around to it. Next pair down is elbow tongs. Mostly to hold hawks thru the eyes. The next pair is flat tongs. Holding a piece of flat wrought thats going to be a hawk tomorrow :D Last pair is a typical pair of tongs. I think these hold 5/8" stock.

Rick, if you liked Glen's, try Grant Sarver's Off Center brand, you will LOVE them.

Yeah, I saw that Kentucky. Unless I misunderstood, he is based out of Taiwan now. I wonder how that will effect his pricing and delivery.

.... nevermind... I really needed to read the whole thing... I kinda stopped after Taiwan.

Grant Server's Off Center bladesmithing tongs are like an extension of your hand. By far the most versatile tongs I have used.
