If you would have to prioritize your favortie tools, how would it read??? I know I have change my priority, since making damascus.
1. forge
2. press
3. arc welder
4. angle grinder
5. belt grinder
The belt grinder was number 1

I.G., did you build your press? Any tips on where to buy the pump and cylinder??

Mike: Yes, I build the press myself(Bertha). The pump was from Northern and the majority of the hydraulics and motor was from Surplus Center. If you need more details email me. I also have pic on my photopoint.

My favorite tool tends to be the one that I just tweaked or rebuilt in some way. It gives me that same sense of satisfaction that I get when I finish a knife. I just tweaked my TAIG micro mill to near perfection. :)

my hardcore grinder and my foredom flex shaft. with the hor, bandsaw i am in biz. almost forget. a cheapee harbor drill press.

my favorite tool?
I think are the ones I make myself.
It is one thing to do fine work with good tools,
to do fine work with tool that you have made yourself now thats the ticket.

but to choose one over another?

I can't

Once upon a time, it would have been my grinder and drill press but now it is:

1) 1:1.618
2) a hot fire (my favorite part)
3) a flat anvil
4) a good quality hammer
5) a good grinder (I have a Hardcore) to try to fix the mistakes from the 3 above

But most importantly, my eyes and my hands. Without these, I wouldn't be able to make knives.
