I'm sure this topic has come up before, but not real recently, so I thought I'd ask...

What is your favorite traditional folder style... not brand or maker, but style of handle, blade... etc...

Persoanlly, I got hooked on the three blade whittler Camillus Boy Scout knife - I love the clip point main blade and the smaller pen size... But I have grown to like th etype Case makes with the two blade saddlehorn or the two blade folding hunter

Okay, I really like the blade style the most...

What do y'all like?

(Pics shamelessly lifted from some internet storefronts...)

CARRY KNIFE THAT CLIPS INSIDE YORE POCKET.
I still carry a 3 or 4 bladed stockman though I also like the 4-bladed congress knives right well too, carry them occassionally, and added two of 'em to the collection just this week.
I also carry a Leatherman WAVE on my jeans belt along with the 45 pistol, and two additional magazines.

3 1/4 in stockman.very versitile. Some times I carry in my pocket and sometimes in a WH clip pouch.

I guess the stockman is my favorite but the trapper is a close second. I am also fond of wood and brass lockback's. I have a couple of the new style folders with pocket clips and I like them but they just don't have the soul that a good old pocket knife has.

Unfortunately, I have been known to succumb to the temptation of any pattern, but my favorites are a Wharncliff whittler (with coping blades) and doctor patterns. Over the last year or so the doctor patterns that I have been ordering are serpentine and when possible with capped bolsters.

It also seems that I have picked up a couple of gunstocks during the last year. I need to get a pic of the Ron Newton gunstock up on the forums. It is pretty awesome.

For traditional knives the stockman is my favorite by a longshot. Those docter pattern knives are really growing on me though.

4 blade congress is my favorite pattern followed by mini-copperhead and wharncliffe trapper. The one I carry most often is a wharncliffe trapper. Like the wharncliffe blade a lot, but find myself using the clip more often.

In a mini-copperhead, I've never seen a custom other than the one Bill Ruple makes. He had two in mammoth ivory at Blade. I got one. Anyone here get the other?

I've always had a thing for the toothpick (powder horn) pattern. I just wish more were made with a 2 1/2" - 3" blade. :(
The equal end pen is another.

For looks: The Toothpick.
My EDC is a Queen D2 Canoe.
One thick backspring on a thin, pocket friendly 2 blade knife.

:D

For me it's a three way tie. Either a teardrop jack with spear blade, a 3 blade whittler with a spear blade for the main blade or a congress with spear, pen, sheepsfoot and coping blades. Spear blades are my favorite for general use. As far as handle material goes, jigged bone is my favorite, with stag running a close second.

PS
almost forgot, for whittlers I prefer either an equal end or sleeveboard frame.

3 blade medium stockman.....

Schrade, of course.

Hard to ay which traditional folder I like best......I do have some favs though.
I like the Stockmans large and med, Congress,Trapper med and large,Canoe and Whittler patterns......
I tend to favour multiple blades....... :D

3 bladed stockman, medium or large. Usually there´s a Schrade 897UH in my pocket, today it´s a 34OT.

I´m glad you didn´t ask for the second favorite pattern, that would be a hard question for me.

One thing ya gotta like about sowbellies and canoes is that they are very pocket friendly.

Okay, we seem to really favor the stockman style in this group, with several others coming in close behind... But, I did notice a lack of mention of several old styles, like the barlow, saddlehorn trappers... and a few others I guess...

I do have to reiterate, I do like the multiple blades of the whittler the best, but again I think that is a reflection of my preference for the clip point main blade... and I also tended to use the 'coping' blade more than the other two anyway... and I always thought, when I was younger, that it had an interesting grind that neither of the other two blades had... and sometimes, I could even get it sharp! LOL!!!

Thanks for the input, guys... it's always interesting to find out what others prefer when looking for something to fill the task of "pocket knife"... especially when we get beyond the modern versions of EDC and their hi-tech materials/looks...

:D

Looks: Case's Seahorse whittler

For use: Undecided. Too many patterns that I haven't tried. Though I've used Schrade's 8OT ("large" stockman) the most.

I'm mostly a fan of slim trappers. I just ordered a Queen #11 Utility in stag/bone though, good looking knife in my opinion. Suppose to be here tomorrow, I can't wait.
