Hey guys,
Very general question here, and if there is already a good thread for this by all means let me know, but I was wondering what's your favorite traditional folder in both the under 50$ range and/or the under 100$ range? If its a specific knife great, but favorite brands are also greatly appreciated.

I just caught the traditional knife bug fairly recently and I'm in love with the amber bone case mini copperlock I got a few months back. This is a great forum so I just thought I would poll you guys on this one. Can't wait to see what you've suggest.

Thanks!

Currently my favorite under $100 is the GEC 68 White Owl clip blade and GEC 74 Stallion ebony... really can not chose. Fav under $50 probably Victorinox farmer but you may like to stay with a theme and check out these two;

Case amber Texas Jack (under $50)

Case antique bone Sowbelly (under $100)

Under $50
Case peanut or ones of bucks smaller slipjoints

Under $100
Honestly, id still go with a case peanut or one of bucks knives. Cases fit and finish, when good is spot on with gecs. Gec uses slightly better materials and 1095 in the high 50s which i love, but it can be pretty hard to find the pattern(s) youre after.

Buck makes a great utilitarian knife. No frills, no fancy materials, and a pretty generic steel. But what buck does with 420hc is pretty much all i look for in a blade steel. It sharpens easily and takes a great edge. I wish it had a bit more wear resistance, but that would require more carbon, making it an entirely different steel with different fabrication and heat treating tecniques.

I got a case peanut from my girlfriend this past christmas that is absolutely perfect in every way that matters. Even grinds, centered blades, and decent pull. The covers arent dyed as dark as id like, but thats personal preference and nothing that anyone else looking at the knife would know. Plus, time will fix that on its own

Under $100: Case seahorse whittler

Under $50
Case medium stockman
Case peanut
Rough Rider
Opinel
Mercator
Douk-douk
Case sodbuster jr and sr.

Two modern knives and one comment were moved offline. The title has been edited to include traditional.

Under a $100 Queen #49 w/ punch. GEC F&F #99. Under $50-Case Copperlock, stockman(take your pick, there are tons, but again I like an awl), and the mini-copperhead. Those things are just plain useful, and easy to carry. :D I reserve the right to add more.
Thanks, Neal

I keep it under 50$, so I don't have any 50-100$ options.
Any vintage imperial knife in good condition is as excellent of a value today as it was 29 years ago or minimum.
Buck 110
Buck 283 and 425 ( not super traditional handle wise but are great 2 handed opening key chain sized lockbacks with a traditional shaped blade for under 20$ )
Case sodbusters in delrin
Vic gardner
Vic tinker
Vic recruit
Vic pocket pal ( now only available in the alox version called the secretary )
Vic classic
Rough rider tiny trapper
Bulldog brand baby saddlehorn trapper

Under $50: Vic Adventurer SAK
Under $100: Probably the #14 Lick Creek Boys Knife.

Most of my GEC's cost more than $100 that I like. They tend to be #42's.

Favorite knife under $100 is the Queen #49 stockman in either stag bone or curly zebrawood with D2 tool steel, around $75.

Duh! How could i not mention carbon imperials:rolleyes: thats what happens when i post at work, i get forgetful

Under $50: Victorinox Alox Cadet
Under $100: GEC 61 Congress. My 77 cost more than $100.

My favorite under $100 is a toss up between 2 SFO's from collector knives. Either the GEC Northfield barlow 77 or his runs of 85's. Both were available last year for $98.00 Unfortunately the secondary market price is usually $150 plus. There is usually a run of 77 barlows every year so it's something to consider down the road.

My favorite under $50 is one of the colored victorinox alox pioneers or farmer. I prefer the pioneer. For 2017 the olive drab pioneer would be my pick. Last years special edition pioneer was blue. These should be coming out before too long. Orange, light grey, black, silver pioneers are available now. I've seen some copper colored farmers available now under $50.00.

I normally carry something from Case or Victorinox. You can find many knives from both companies that fit in both of your categories.

Most of my traditional knives are old Antique store and flea market finds. Most of them I spent significantly less than 50 dollars for. I had one outing where I probably got 6 great old stock and Jack knives for under 20 bucks total, for good old classic American brands with carbon steel and already with the pocket worn look I love. If you like old time style knives and spend a little time looking you can find lots of them.
My favorite new bought knife in this price range right now is a Mercator black cat.
