Favorite user handles?

What are you favorite handles for a large user? For me out of my knives i've found the hand shaped micarta on the NMFBM to be the best 100x. The worst handles i've ever used were on my ASH-1, due not so much to the handle material, but the handle style itself. It would give me HORRIBLE blisters if I didn't use gloves that would take forever to heal.

I've been considering sending out some knives to be rehandled with hand shaped mags, and will probably do so with any larger knives I buy in the future.

How about this one? :D

Barring that, the hand shaped micarta mags on my NMSFNO are about the most comfortable I've held.

My relationship with machined fusion handles is a hatred that burns with the fire of a thousand suns. The FSH has one of the worst handles I've ever used. I'm still deciding what to do with it - I might grind off some of the excessive downward hook at the pommel, and will definitely smooth and shape the micarta. I might pull the slabs altogether, reshape the handle, and put my own on, if I ever get the time to take on such a project.

magnum G10 on my .32 ASH1 ;) seriously, never caused me any blisters.

however, I bet hand-shaped ones are even better. hand-shaped canvas seems best overall.

I have gigantic banana hands that are pretty meaty. On the ASH with mags it was the equivalent of loading up a VW bug with a couple elephants and going on a long drive. If my hands were smaller, mainly less wide they would have been fine for me. That said, the FSH handles seem to fit me ok, as did the FFBM. Nothing like the hand shaped mags on the NMFBM.

Pee on your blisters and toughen those suckers up. :D

You chewed up that guard pretty good. One of the reasons I tend to not like SY knives, specifically the regulator.

The chewed up guard doesnt affect performance, and the handle is way more comfortable than any micarta or g10 could ever be. And it's still got a lifetime warranty so I can get it rehandled whenever I want.

Also realize that the regulator was a test team model, and there are supposed to be several tweaks being made to the production version. One of the most common complaints I heard from testers was the lack of metal to support the top guard, so I'd be surprised if they don't do anything to address that issue.

I've never had any problems with the res-c on my SoD, or the Dogfather before I sold it.

As far as Micarta goes, I really like the new BWM handle a lot. No hot spots for me.

Just for reference, how big are your hands?

Also, i've heard (mainly from ankerson) about feeling a lot of vibration through the knife when chopping.

I have large hands. Vibration is not as bad as on some knives. I think the Resiprene handles are best for extended chopping.

I like the Fusion Magnum handles.

Just got 2 blisters from the BWM handle today, have to use gloves with it from now on. :grumpy:

I always wondered why you guys don't protect your hands more and wear some tight fitting leather gloves. You know if you have a glancing blow/hit, your knuckles will take the abuse, along with whatever skin comes in contact with debris, limbs, wood whatever.

It's a different feel with gloves on.

Sounds kind of familiar,:D I guess its a man thing. But a ounce of prevention is worth well you know.

I very rarely do any kind of work with gloves on - I don't like the lack of tactile feedback. I'm also an avid rock climber, so pretty accustomed to beating the hell out of my hands. Chopping is fairly tame compared to bearing down on a razor sharp crimp.

On the flip side, when your hands are bleeding and raw after a day climbing, you want the most comfortable handle possible to prepare your firewood, even if you ARE wearing gloves.

For Busse knives, the NMSFNO handles (mine have hand shaped G10 magnum slabs) are fairly comfortable for me.

I find Resiprene C more comfortable than micarta or G10.

My hand are long and narrow.
