I will give this a shot...
Favorite dangerous game rifle is my Browning Model 71 re-barreled in 450 Alaskan, a 458 Win Mag equivalent). I also have a Browning BAR Safari re-barreled in 375/338 (375 H&H equivalent) and a 9.3X74R Tikka Double that I fitted an addition set of 12 guage barrels to. Here is the Alaskan (which is the only gun I own that I gave a name to...Boomer)
At the other end of the spectrum is my favorite varmint rifle, a Remington 700 rechambered to 22 CHeetaH. This rifle has accounted for over 1500 coyotes. It launches a 53 grain bullet (I use Barnes X-Bullets) at 4150 and will keep groups well under 1/2 MOA.
Favorite Sub Caliber rifle (yes they are competitions that require rifles in handgun calibers) is my Masterpiece Arms 971. This is a rather unique marriage of a FN/FAL lower with a Mac upper. Chambered in 9X19 it use the reliable 71 round Suomi drum magazines. This is also threaded for a GEM suppressor.
Speaking of suppressed weapons...here I have to go with the AR platform supporting a JD Jones 300 Whisper (have ya noticed I like wildcats?) upper. Using a 200 grain bullet at 1100fps this is very quiet and hits very hard. Runner up in this category is my suppressed Ruger 77 in 308.
(All class 3 weapons are correctly tax stamped btw)
And of course every one needs a 22 rifle or two. I built this one over the winter using a Boyd stock, Tactical Solutions Barrel, Powers Custom trigger, sear, hammer, etc., and am using a Tru-Glo 2X dot. This rifle is light enough to shoot off hand like a pistol.
Moving up for a main battle rifle I just can't help but go with a 308 over the smaller calibers. My favorite is the venerable FN/FAL. This one was built by Ohio Rapid Fire and has a Hendsolt 4X on a QD mount. At a recent competition I used it with the iron sights to hit 5 helium filled bobbing in the wind balloons at 100 yards in 7 seconds, it does shoot.
While on the subject of military rifles everyone should own a classic. without a doubt my favorite classic military arm is the M1 Carbine. This is mine, an Inland. When I recieved this from the DCM there was a tag on it saying "nice barrel". It is the only M1 i have owned that will shoot under 1 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards...nice barrel indeed!
Shotguns....love them all but...
My favorite for Trap and for combat competitions is a Remington 1100. This one has a Fajen stock, 10 round extension, and a Hastings Wad-Lock barrel which is a straight rifling barrel (rifled with a zero twist rate).
For Skeet and other clay games it is another story. The one that goes with me most often is my Beretta White Onyx in 20 gauge. (the only completely stock long gun I own I think...lol)
For Upland Game I love the classics and in the field my favorite is my 16 gauge Winchester Model 24. Choked IC/Mod this one is great for quail and pheasant. Built on a 20 gauge frame it is very fast handling.
That covers the long guns, it wasn't easy to pick favorites as there are runners up in every category but I went with what gets grabbed most often for each situation. Like I said different jobs require different tools so I own different guns for different purposes and each of these is a favorite in it's category. In a later post I will cover my favorite handguns.
