Favourite Filet Knife

My Dad's Rapala(made by Martini) is an incredible fillet knife. Holds an edge well and is razor sharp with a thin blade and literally glides through fish.

Not much of a fisherman (just not my thing), but I use a Microtech Marlin in the kitchen a fair amount and have found it nice.

Rapala with a curly birch handle. My brother likes his Knives of Alaska fillet knife with 8A steel.zimmerDN, what's yours?

I'd say my Normark 7" Fillet Knife, Sandvik 12C27 stainless steel blade, customized handle; buffalo horn, packawood, reindeer horn, stabilized ashwood, silver ring inlays

Don't have one particular favorite. But I very much like both my BRKT Canadian Sportsman II and Fallkniven F2.

The Fallkniven has a much stouter blade than most fillet knives, which takes a bit of getting used to, but the sturdy blade makes it useful for numerous other tasks in addition to fishing.

Still have some Rapalas kicking around and one made by Frosts/Mora that also work real well.

Being I'm a Spyderco man my prejudices are appropriate. I love my older Spyderco Catcherman. It's a folding fillet knife made with AUS-8 and my favorite one is a fully serrated model.

Two of them that have got my attention that you guys have chimed in with are the Microtech Marlin that the one Brother chimed in with.

Now the other Brother that has the "Knives Of Alaska" fillet knife I have to also give a high five to. I have used one of those and they make a superb fillet knife.

I've also heard that folding fillet knife of Benchmades is a really good one.

I use my Spyderco CAtcherman for all kinds of food processing chores as well as many other kitchen jobs. A good fillet knife is a great all purpose cutting tool. I sure want 2 or 3 of them in my survival kit

Ya'll don't clean many fish do you? Electric only way to go, mistertwister is about 19.00 and will usually last one good spring and summer.

I cant wait to go home on leave, I have a dozier Fillet knife waiting for me in the mail, hopefully ill be able to spend some time fishing in nags head with my fiancee and ill get to try it out. Ive heard amazing things about it so i decided that instead of getting a rappala or a KOA i would just get the best of the best and call it a day. :)

I like electric also, on Bass , walleye and larger fresh water fish, but not on crappie and other panfish,as I tend to cut through the backbone often. For panfish I use a rapala.

Hard to beat the Rapala, they are inexpensive and work about asa well as the high dollar knives, hard for me to justify spending much more for a fillet knife.

Where did you get this one? I didn't know that there was a Dozier fillet knife.
Is it D2 or a stainless?

Another +1 on the Rapala, it’s what I learned on and if it’s only a few fish
5 gallon bucket of Crappie I’ll go with the electric and remove rib bones with a 6” Rapala

Hey is the Dozier Fillet knife made out of D-2 blade steel? I had heard that was the only blade steel he made knives out of. I would love to test drive any fillet knife he would make.

Also VG-10 is one of my very favorite blade steels. Is anyone aware of any premium fillet knives made with VG-10?
