I'm loving the southard I recently acquired and would like to buy more flipper style knives. I've got a budget of $200 and am looking around at different models. It will be an EDC blade for me.
I'm thinking a blade length of 3.5-4 inches would be best.

Any suggestions?

I was looking at that one. Does kershaw guy stock them regularly? Because I probably won't be buying for the next 3 weeks

Not the blade lengths you are looking for but I like:

ZT 0550 ($120)
Buck Vantage Force Pro ($70-$80)

Get both, for about $200.

Yeah, get a 0560/0561 from Kershawguy. I think he wants somewhere between $205-$215 for them, brand new.

ZT 0301 blem from kershawguy.

3 3/4" blade, assisted opener flipper, Ti framelock, S30V, $165...what's not to like.

That all depends on how much knife you want to carry. At 8.0 ounces, the 0301 is WAY over my weight limit for an EDC and practically twice as heavy as a Southard. But it's a helluva knife nonetheless.

I can understand that. I am a jeans and t-shirt guy, so 8oz isn't all that much to me. For those in an office type setting, yah...it's overbuilt.:)

Check out the Benchmade 300sn. I don't own one but it will be one of my next purchases.

ZT 350 is a sure fire winner for what you want - identical profile as the 301 but 10% smaller. If you can stand a little extra size, the ZT 0200 is just a brilliant knife without the assist. Far and away my favourite two folders.

Best flipper made to date would have to be the Kershaw RAM. You should get one, it's a awesome EDC blade.

I was skeptical of the 300SN because of its thickness and weight, but I love mine as much as any knife I have owned over the last ten or fifteen years. It fits well with slacks, and it does not feel heavy in my pocket at all. The Axis lock does not flip like a liner or Framelock, but I am used to it now. It cuts just fine too.:)

I also have say that the smoothest flipper of all time is the Kershaw RAM. I would love to see these reintroduced in an upgraded steel like 154cm or S30V.

the CRKT Ripple in any steel level is the smoothest flipper i have ever owned, as long as it is a light utility task your looking for they are amazing blades. if your looking for something stronger The buck or ZT offerings should satiate your thirst for flipping steel

Heck, I'd suggest the Kershaw blem JunkYardDog II Composite blade folder from Kershawguy. I think I paid $59 each for them; bought three at the time. It's a D2 blade sandwich between some cover steels. One of the best folders I've ever owned, and a great workhouse. It really cuts well. I like it for rough work trimming branches and stuff around the house. Great knife.

Yes, Yes, and Yes. I knew I would not be the only one to say this. I love my Southard, and overall prefer it over everything I own, but as far as flipper action, the RAM cannot be beat. The RAM is harder to come by, but you should pick one up, and have lots leftover to buy something else.

Don't like many stock clips, and the RAM is no exception. I found a Ti clip I liked better.

Zt 560. You can get one new for under $200. I got both of mine of the exchange for well under $200. Best flipper I've owned
