FBM after a beating

Finally got a few shots of the FBM after deer hunting.

I'm pretty sure Ban was asking about the edge after chopping bone and I also got a shot of the edge toward the tip after a oops swing full force into a garage floor.

Full length of the blade. Most of the bone chopping was done in the middle of the blade.

And one toward the tip. It hit right as the blade curves up toward the tip.

And in a effort to see how my FBM chops and batons in the cold I have a little plan. I saved a couple hind leg bones that I plan to chop the heck out of as soon as it gets below zero again, then I have a nice 3.5' elder branch of a good sized diameter I'm going to split too.:D

I may resharpen the blade before doing the below zero bit, but it's still in good shape so I'm not sure yet.

I'll post it up when I'm done.

Happy Holidays

for what its worth i use my bm on deer occaisonally. i have no problem splitting the pelvis or rib cage with it. i once did use it on a leg bone (femur) and managed to ding the blade. it should be noted that the original convex grind was long gone and i had been sharpening it in the standard v shape. the convex edge might very well have been uneffected. the good news was i was able to get it mostly realigned with a steel and then resharpened it as good as new. had i done this with some of my other knives im sure id have at least chipped a large piece out or cracked it in two.

ps. its good to see a blade being used, not collected and shelved like a beanie baby.

Sorry Helle, you're going to have to do much better than this. I see no signs that a beating has taken place!

Exactly, that's why I'm freezing the bones and chopping them up in subzero weather, we'll see.

I will say I was afraid to look at the edge after the oops swing but after seeing the results of it hitting on the concrete in full swing I was very happy.:D
