FBM spine ridges

I just picked up my second FBM and noticed that the ridge on its spine is different from the grey one i've had a while. The ridge on the tan one is rounded, and on the grey one it's not. Is this common?

Crappy pics but they give some idea of what i'm talking about.

I've got this also with 2 of my SFNO's. No problem for me:thumbup:

I don't mind it really... just wasn't aware there could be such a big difference. The pics doesn't really show it... i didn't see it at first but felt it as soon as i put my thumb on the spine.

FYI - My tan CG FBM is also ground down similarly to a narrower width blade and surprisingly - it also weighs significantly less (approx 1.5 oz) less than the other three CG FBMs I got.

One at '1lb 8.6oz' as compared to three at '1lb 11oz' for all the others.

I think someones asleep at the grinding wheel!

Thats whats nice about semi-custom! :) Lots of hand finishing making for a distinctive blade. There are small variations in every one. All that hand finishing gives the knives their "soul", the special feel that you only get from a knife with so much human influence.

The tolerances are closer now than ever before, I've found some rather interesting differences in the older blades. :D

 My thoughts exactly. I've yet to receive something from the shop with a peculiarity that was intolerable. There is something about the uniqueness of each blade that gives me that "old world craftsmanship" feel. Almost like the blade was made for you.

That's part of the reason why it becomes so difficult for me to sell one. It is even more difficult with one of the "users" I've bonded with over time. I think that is why so many of us have experienced regret after selling one and, years later, manage to find a way to get it back. :)
