So which will work better? My CGFBM chops pretty darn good, and the long blade makes it super easy to baton, making life very easy for getting the firewood ready. It's been convexed and it seems like it holds an edge better now.

I've got a Knoboganza Crash Rat on the way and I wonder how it's going to compare!! It's not going to be as easy to use for splitting wood, I'm guessing, but will it chop better?

For chopping wood the FBM is going to be 10 X better. For chopping off doorknobs and breaching (prying open a door with the chisel ground handle end and so forth) the Crash Rat will be superior I suspect. The Crash Rat is an amazing little tool. It's a tiny brute but is pretty specific in it's purpose IMHO.

I have not used a Crash Rat, but I seem to recall Eric mentioning that it was not optimized for chopping wood. YMMV

The Crash Rat chews through wood like the best of them....just because it wasn't designed for it doesn't mean it isn't good for it. Actually, that is all I have chopped with mine and it has excelled.

I haven't had a chop-off with it, but after finals I will have time.

Nice. It's good to a report from someone who has used it more. Did you have to thin out the edge to get that kind of performance? The couple I have used on wood seemed like the edge thickness was a huge limitation. And the retention at the bottom of the handle is lacking compared to the FBM IMO. It's a heavy little tool and it seemed like it could take off sometimes LOL. I would definitely defer to Gravelface on this as it sounds like he has had a lot more experience with it. I just love my FBM in comparison.
