Just one of those impulse moments... Now where's the AK to put through the TV?????? :grumpy::grumpy: This is just one of those annoying things... See, the TV picture went out about a week ago after blinking on & off slowly for some time... Turns out that even though the tube is still working, and the sound is good, an ITTY BITTY little white balance chip has failed, and so the whole TV is now as good as dead, since the repair would about equal the original cost and the TV is 13 years old. Great, huh? Well today I dropped the remote and it also stopped working so... **BAM** I chopped it up a notch. I am thinking about getting some safety goggles, and BRINGING IT to the TV, too. What else can I drop today? A ceramic bowl, that accident took awhile to clean up... The remote... What an evening, grrrrrrrrr. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go get FUBAR. See ya... And enjoy the pix! LOL :grumpy::o :foot:

What's the moral of this story? Who cares. No worries, I'll get a new TV soon enough. Think of all the commercials I'll miss, thank GOD. BTW... This thread is brought to you by SONY Trinitron ... The TV won't fail, just our weak azz'd chips... And the Busse Combat FBM LE... Guaranteed to kill your remote control without losing its edge. LOL
:p

I've definitely been tempted to do the same thing.

Our TVs had best keep behaving -- or else!!!

I woulda liked to seen an action shot as you hacked it in two and it went flying in pieces.

Hasaaaaaan CHOP!

I wasn't planning to take pix of this, that wasn't the plan... You can see that one chop went straight through, and both halves did fly off in opposite directions... when I picked them up, I just wasn't satisfied quite yet, so then I impaled it... LMAO, THEN it dawned on me to get a pic or 2 for y'all. heh-heh!

BTW... Does anyone know with certainty whether a TV tube implodes or explodes? ... 246 Lbs. of TV wasted all because a 3-4 gram chip fails... what a waste, so I figure, maybe get some entertainment value out of it? Should be good pix, and if I can figure it out, the Leica has a movie mode...

Way to release that tention... and got to use the FBMLE to do it:thumbup:

From my limited experience with small CRTs I have observed that they do implode. However there is a remote chance that some of that glass or the electron gun in the back of the tube can become a forward moving projectile. I have not personally seen it happen but it allegedly has. I would exercise caution. Anybody have any direct knowledge of what a large CRT does when it breaks?

Yeah, I thought about that... I was thinking of putting on some gloves, standing to one side and back as far as possible, and smacking the glass with the spine of the FBMLE, but I'm still looking for info before just going at it. I'm not looking to get nominated for a Darwin Award, LOL!

We would hate to see you nominated Jaxx. Looking forward to the pics. Let us if you get any projectiles or if it is an urban legend.

Jax, if the TV is a Trinitron the glass tube is a couple inches thick.Thats why it weighs so much.:)

Time for a new high def flat panel TV! Oh well :D

A sledge hammer is probably the best tool for whacking that picture tube, unless you have a 44 mag handy and understanding neighbors.

I SOOOO want to use our Philips LCD TV for dodan practice.

The only thing worse thana Philips LCD is a Samsung LCD!!!
