I promised some pics of my FBM whose handle got a rit dye treatment. Found some free time and took so photos. As you can see in the pictures it turned out like a rosewood color. They started out as tan and I used black rit dye.. sprayed them several solvents so far and the dye is there to stay. I really wanted a Black blade with Black micarta handles but at the time I had to jump on what I could find when I could afford it... But I think it turned out nice.

Came out good. Does the dye come off on your hands at all, or is it completely in there now?

I'm sure something can get it out like bleach or something... but carborator cleaner, powder blast, or sweat made it bleed any. I soaked in it boiling hot dye for about 30 minutes and then soaked it in cold for about 10 minutes... repeated the boiling dye for another 30 minutes and then let running warm water wash over it for about 10 minutes... and then hit it with solvents to see if it would bleed. Nothing.. the water washed away any excess... what remained was pretty permanent. I've had it out working with it for hours with sweaty hands and haven't seen any indication of bleeding or fading.

There is something you can buy called color remover, in fact, it is recommended that you use it first for items already dyed (from the instructions on the bottle of dye that I haven't used yet) I don't know how or if it is any different from bleach, but if anyone's interested:
www.ritdye.com might have some answers.

Me thinks that color is very nice, reminds me of my first leather bomber jacket...

It does kinda look like leather doesn't it... I haven't decided if I'm going to go any further with it... I'm kind torn... I think it looks really good and my camera is kinda old and crappy so you gotta understand it looks twice as nice in person... but I may buy some black leather dye and take it all the way... I keep thinking how damn sexy it would look if I stripped the blade to silver and left it that wood/leather color in an OD green sheath... It would have a classic old school look to it... So unitl I'm sure what I want to do... I'm doing nothing as I don't want to jump the gun.
