Just had to say I think I have found my favorite blades, the Feather Platinum Coated. The smoothest I have used yet, even though I have only used Astra and Derby. I have a few more brands to try to know for sure, but the Feathers are coming in as strong favorite so far.

Astra blades give a good shave, but Feather is in a class by itself.

Wow, platinum coated should be smooth. I shave with the Feather blades and most of them are smooth. DM

I like Feathers; they last a bunch of shaves and aren't as 'nickful' as many report.

After trying a few different blades, I am only using Feather from now on. Just got 200 in the mail from Singapore for about 55 dollars. I change them out often but 200 should last a while. Took me about a year to use up the last 100 count I purchased.

My skin has never looked as good as it does now.

Feathers, vintage Gillette adjustable razors, superlathers, Shave Secret, and more cold water than hot.....combined with technique......is giving me very high performance shaves that are comfortable to the point of being luxurious.

I shaved first thing this morning and my face is still very smooth as nine pm approaches.

Best blade for me...bar none.

I was a little intimidated by it from all the talk about how scary sharp they are, but after my first pass, I was extremely pleased.

Mirrors my experience.
These are the I*XL of the razor-blade world!

Agreed. I do prefer to get the ones that are 10 per pack as opposed to the ones that only come with five blades per pack.

I have also added a steaming towel to my face prep. Wish I had been doing that the entire time. For me it makes a noticeable difference in the luxury factor and the closeness of my shaves.

I could get by shaving every other day if I had to but what fun is that?

BTW, you can spend hundreds of dollars for a towel steamer... or you can just get a small microwave oven. It may seem odd at first glance to have a microwave oven in your bathroom, but you can get small ones these days in the $50 range and such a microwave oven will convert a wet towel into a steam-hot face towel in about one minute.

Yeah, not only is my budget not going to allow a dedicated towel steamer, I simply don't have the room to put one in my bathroom.

I take a bar mop towel, soak it, wring it, pop it in a freezer bag left open, and then into the microwave for 45 seconds. Comes out too hot to hold at first. Wave it around a little to cool it and then onto the face for a bit.

Sheer luxury. I am going to try to find better towels locally now. My city is chock full of beauty supply places and restaurant supply places. Thrill of the hunt and all.

Does the steamed towel really make that big of a difference in the shave itself?

Yes, it does. The secret to the perfect, irritation-free, super-close, BBS shave lies in three areas of almost equal importance: beard prep, lathering, and shaving technique. Screw up any of those (or do a sloppy job), and the face suffers. The steamed towel falls under the beard prep category and can do wonders. However, it can also ruin the beard prep if the towel is too hot and held on for too long. It should be hot, but not hot enough to make your skin red and raw.

I have just started steaming towels.

Wish I had started 35 years ago. It makes an enormous difference as far as my face/shave is concerned. It adds about three minutes to the process (45 seconds for the micronuke and the rest is face time) so it is not that much more trouble.

The benefit for me is a much closer shave with an added luxury factor. It feels REALLY GOOD. The only way it could improve is if my wife applied it to my face wearing something naughty.

I rank it right up there with fine chocolate and a freshly ground/brewed cup of Columbian coffee.

This morning, 0500 hours, I was preparing for my daily shave by taking a nice, hot shower, whipping up a nice lather with a Semogue 1305 out of Conk almond and KMF Pomegranate, wet my face and then nuked my towel.

I took that towel to the bathroom, let it cool just a second or two, and then applied Shave Secret to my face and then popped that towel on. Two minutes of near bliss. That steam feels soo soo good.

Lather was great too....nice and yogurt like. My 1305 is getting more and more broken in and softer so the lathering process was butter smooth....pillowy, so to speak.

59 Fatboy set on seven, cold water splashes between lathers/passes, took the same towel that had cooled and dunked it in fresh, cold water. Wrung it out and popped that to my BBS face. Felt really good as well.

Thayers WH, drying time while cleaning up, and then Barbasol Pacific Rush for a menthol finish.......five hours later my face is still smooth and I have very little redness to my pores. That has always been my trouble area.....red pores. Having Rosacea doesn't help things but this is the best my skin has ever looked.

I don't think that the hot towel is necessary, no. I don't do it very often. A hot shower works great. Failing that, I just wash my face with hot water and soap and take a bit longer than necessary doing it.

Hair is made of the basic stuff that your fingernails are made of. If you try to cut your fingernails when they're dry, it will be difficult and you may end up with shattered or cracked nails. But try to cut them after a short, hot shower and they will be soft and easy to cut. The same is true for hair.

If you have a very tough, coarse beard, you may need to go to the extreme of the steaming hot towel treatment. But, a lot of guys find that just a few minutes spent washing their face with soap and hot water is enough.

Most guys' shaves do benefit -- often dramatically -- from form of hot, wet pre-shave.

Interesting tip that on the micro towel cook! Must try it.

I find a hot towel does improve matters, being in Finland we have sauna everywhere and THIS is a really first rate prep.

Hot shower and a hot towel......bliss.

Like today's shave. I actually started out with some Columbian coffee and a piece or two of 80+ percent chocolate. My day off.

Coffee, chocolate......and a surprisingly great lather with Conk bay rum, hot shower, hot towel, great shave.

Necessary? Maybe not. But neither is chocolate.

Got to smell them roses. Life is too short.

Debating running to the spirits store. Been out of the brown stuff for quite some time.....too long IMHO. lol
