I wanted to show a new construction design that incorporates an integral hidden tang to take the keyhole design to a stronger level. It took a little more feather pattern damascus to mill the tang but opens up endless possibilities of using scales of stag, ivory, etc... unlike the original construction method that limits one to blocks of wood only. This is the 3rd hidden tang model I've made but only the first with and integral guard. It took 14" of feather pattern damascus to pull this off. I was tempted to make a 14" standard non-integral bowie but decided to go with the integral. The blade ended up being 9" with a 5" handle using amber dyed India Sambar stag. A little 24 carat gold wire to add some bling and a Paul Long sheath will follow. Your comments are appreciated. Ron

That is just grogeous Ron - and a fascinating peek inside at the construction method, as well. I hope you'll have this or others like it at Blade - I'd love to look one over up close.

+1  VERY cool design. It does appear that it would add significant strength vs. keyhole with the rigidity based on only wood or handle material.

I hope to see it at Blade also.

very, very cool, and a gorgeous knife. I dig it!

SO NICE.
Spectacular construction with the choicest materials.
My favorite keyhole too, Chris.
Love the stag. Most tasteful engraving.

Thanks for posting this. Not only is it an incredible piece of work,
but it also answers some questions I previously had about the
structural integrity of the handle. Well done sir.

Thank you for your comments. Glad to see you're liking the addition of the integral tang. I'll have this on the table (ABS section, table 5-O) at blade for you to take a closer look at.
I also wanted to thank Chuck Ward for his awesome photography.

Most excellent knife and a very clever design of the handle. You and Rodrigo are the MASTERS of the forged integral!!!

Wow! I like it! I like the guard, the blade, the handle, the tang, the key-hole, the small grooves on the top and bottom of the handle and I like the 24K gold inlay! Nice work my friend. :) One of your best integrals yet. :D Can't wait to see it in person.

Ron -- looks like there will be a real line up at your table to see this fine piece of work. Very impressive.
