Well here it is. The mighty forge of the bullgod. I took the rock with me on a camping trip a couple of weeks ago. I hollowed it out with a forged spoon. The stuff was so easy to carve out that I decided to embellish it a little. The black on the outside is some of the refractory cement that was left over. It was fun to see the expression on peoples faces at the campground when I told them what it was going to be. It worked out pretty well though. The campground's giftshop is going to let me demo at the farm and forresty museum and sell whatever I want. All the time spent at the demo's counts towards volunteer hours, which equate to free campsite and cabin time. They are also going to sell my stuff in the gift shop. Got to get busy:D . The burners are the T-Rex burners from Rex Price. Sorry I forgot to take the obligatory fired up burner photo:( . The refractory is still drying but should be done this afternoon. Then a light coat of ITC-100 and I should be in buisness. Enough yappin, here's the pic's.

It makes a great story though...Too bad it didn't work. It would have been pretty cool...

Sorry bout that. I thought that was waaay KEWL.

How about a steel Fire Breathin BUFFALO :D :D

Too bad, guy. And all that work you put into it. You did some real fine art work there, too. You an artist, too?

Thanks for the sympathy guys. I consider all knifemakers to be artists. I have always enjoyed drawing and carving.

On a brighter note. I found a refractory place about an hour from my house. I was telling them about what happened and I guess the guy felt sorry for me. He looked around the warehouse and scrounged up two cases of 2800 degree soft fire brick a 50 ft roll of 1" 2600 degree refractory blanket and 50lb bucket of satanite. "Freebie" He said they have stuff left over from some large jobs that they just dont have any use for. :) Gonna make a large brick forge and a couple of portables.

Sorry Mark. It was a good idea though....wish I'd thought of it. Don't feel bad, I've had lots better ideas than that blow up (some really blew up). You would have loved the arrow rifle I made using 2000 psi to push it. I was too cheap to by a SCUBA Buddy Bottle so I tried making one. Got a hand pump that would 2200 psi and at about 1500 it launched itself along with a fair sized chunk of meat from my left hand! :o :) :D

Mark that's too bad! What a cool idea. Maybe you could build another, wire around it like you would a one brick forge? They crack too, we don't care! :D Wire holds em together. Anyway, great try and thanks for sharing.

Edited to add: How do I find out about those great burners?

Dave

Hey Peter, I'll tell you about the city having to replace a sign because a potato bazooka incident:D :D. You'd be surprised how much damage a tater can do uh-huh.

David the burners were in a link at Ron Reils website. They work fantastic. I set the up in the vice just to test. I dont think I will have any problems getting some good heat going. I'm taking a break right now form putting a new forge together.

Lord works in mysterious ways. If the one you made would have worked you never would have found the freebie deal. I bought two of those bricks for about 3 bucks each.
