I thought I'd post this now so I could give anyone a heads up. We started planning our Real cold winter trip for 22-24 Feb 08. It doesnt look like our January trip is going to give us a lot of cold weather or snow so we will have another one up here in Chateaugay, NY. Last February on our trip the temps went down to around -10 to-15 degrees. So far we got Big John (Tallquietman) Kevin E & Aggie & me. Any brave souls out there want to join us. All are invited.:)

Oldman,

I flyfish the Chateaugay and love that area. Where do I get the details? Love the Adirondack Park. It's like Algonquin Park, but without all the socialists running it.

I would like to winter flyfish the Ausable River as well. Do you know any campsites on the catch/release section (near Wilmington) that would allow a mutant like me to camp and cast a fly? or public land?

Also, can I get a pulk into the camp area? I would need to add the overbag to my Wiggy's Superlight to be comfortable at those temps. The combination would be bulky to carry.

Marty's right, I'm in for sure on this one. If anyone wants to brave the cold, you are more than welcome at our campfire. My friends think I'm crazy when I say I can't wait to spend another night in a snow shelter!

I always say, "If they have to ask why we do this, they'll never understand."

Come on guys and gals, its not that cold!

Most of us going use sleds or pulks, no problem. I recommend folks bring plenty of extra stuff.
About your opther question, you can camp on state land, no problem. I would recommend that you call the DEC in Ray Brook, NY and ask for the name of the Forest Ranger for the area you are interested in and then call them.
