I have an opportunity to purchase a significant quantity of Federal Tactical Bonded 124 gr 9mm HP ammunition cheap. But I'm unable to find much data on this round, and apparently it has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Does anyone know anything about this round? Thanks.

What kind of info are you looking for? I've shot a good bit of it and can say that it is quality ammo, no misfires shoots straight  etc, but have zero first hand knowledge of it's use in intended real world applications. That being said, it does seem to make sense that chemically or electrically joining the jacket to the core would increase penetration, especially in hard barriers where the jacket would be most likely to separate and the bullet fragment. From what I've read, expansion is lessened slightly (IIRC, Federal claims 9mm tested to .51 total after expansion for their JHP LE ammo, I can check the bonded later if you like as I believe I still have a box of it).

However, in essence, I know just enough about it to know that I don't know much. So I'll be waiting with interest, hoping someone else comes along with some knowledge of it's effectiveness in it's intended purpose.

I bought a good bit of it when I got my mp9c and it has all shot great. I used to have links of ballistic tests with the stuff but have since lost em. I know at the time it was a very trusted round, I still have some of it that I use as carry ammo

Any info.

Google is not my friend. I was only able to find a handful of side references to it in discussions on several gun forums, and that's about it.

Same here. I'd thought that maybe someone like the guy at box o' truth might have tested the bonded rounds but I've found nothing of the sort.

And what I mentioned about expansion was not on the box. I know that I read somewhere that the LE rounds were designed to meet FBI standards for expansion and believe that .51" was the number mentioned but I also can't find that info again at the moment.

Anyway, comparing the reported numbers on a box of 124 grain bonded jhp to a box of 124 grain hst, the bonded shows 10fps and 5ft-lbs more across the board and that's about all I've got. :)

the way i see it, GRAB IT NOW! nowadays if you can pick up ANY good ammo at a cheap price, dont hesitate.

BTW, everything ive ever smacked with the +P+ Hydra Shok thought Federal hollow points performed real well.:D

Anytime you can get quantities of ammo at a good price, do so! As for which type bullet, who cares,? Where you place it is more important than weight or configuration. Ask the millions throughout history who were killed with arrows, spears, and stones.

just remember that if you are used to shooting a different grain you need to shoot your new grain to see the difference in POI. some bullet weights will throw the POI off some esp at further distances so pracitce with your 124's
