i have to buy an auto, haven't had one yet, i found the benchmark sidewinder (blackie collins design) on 1stopknifeshop for $69 bucks,
anyone have any experience/comments the next step would be the Benchmade auto for about $115. the blade is 440C and the clip looks a little funky..but it's only $69.

comments/reviews ???????

I got one on a trade. The mechanism is interesting, but that's about it. The knife is very lightweight, and has a plastic clip. The pocket clip is like the ones used on the Meyerco Rascal. In fact, I believe this knife could have easily been manufactured by Meyerco and sold at a cheaper MSRP than what Benchmark asks for. On my model, the action is slow and you have to press the button hard in order to fire it open. I have been waiting for the manual versions, but who knows if they'll ever be made. Personally, I'd save up for a Benchmade or a Microtech auto.

what are the prices like for the microtech auto?
the benchmade is $115 and the BM stryker is like $140.

Some Microtech models like the Combat Talon and the Exodus can run high, but 1sks.com has the L-UDT for $169.99 US dollars and the Kestrel for $149.99 US dollars

save your hard earned dollars and buy a quality auto the first time...forget the sidewinder...it just plain sucks....the benchmades are light years ahead of the sidewinder and the microtechs are light years ahead of the benchmades....you also might want to consider some of the pro tech line.....feverdoc
