Yeah, yeah, no one like advertisements. Getting beyond that I'd like to give some feedback on the ads currently being shown on Bladeforums.

Page load comparison times, using this page as a test: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1142598-help-in-ID-ing-Scout-Pocket-Knife-Vintage
Time with functioning Ad-Blocker: 3 seconds.
Time with Ad-Blocker disabled: 19 seconds.

The ads themselves are among the most obnoxious I've seen. Flashing lights, shaking, cartoon explosions...

Is there a way to make the necessary ads more relevant? At a knife enthusiast website I wouldn't mind seeing ads for knives, dealers, outdoor gear, or even loosely related gadgets.

So static ads good.
Animated ads bad. :thumbdn:
Ads for knives and knife-related products, good.
Ads for online computer games, bad. :thumbdn:

I'm having the same problem with animated ads, but the ads themselves are mainly for guns and some outdoor equipment. As I'm in the UK, and my shooting days are long over, I'm not sure they're well targeted, but they're not offensive.

I don't have Ad-Blocker and it take me about 2.5 seconds on average to load a page. It sound like you have other issues if it takes 19 seconds without it.

I am not liking them. Slow load times, easy to accidentally click on one using my laptop and had my first ever pop up on BF this morning.
A little troubling having a Brownells ad on the side my sale threads that I pay 60.00 a year for.

It's temporary, fear not.

I noticed certain individuals having sponsored ads on their posts. Is this new, and how does one obtain an ad on their posts, if they want one?

It appears that the ads are located in specific locations on a page full of posts. I may be mistaken but, it's not that some posters get to have a choice of what and where, rather it's a randomly assigned by the software.

Yeah, I'm not getting used to them.. I'm annoyed by them... wife walks by, NOW WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT... its clutter, I shop elsewhere, I don't want ads, I paid to avoid them.

Again, I won't renew if they stay. But I've made this clear in the post by Spark about the ads.

NOT getting used to them, they bug me and distract me from why I'm here.

I have got to say that there is another forum about Glocks that I used to read a lot but the ads they started putting up ruined that forum for me. I hardly ever try to do any reading over there any more.

On the bright side, I did find an ad for something useful (1st Aid kits). I doubt i would have seen it otherwise. :)

I'm not going to let it ruin my day or anything, but I thought one of the privileges of Platinum was not seeing ads. Guess that is the future. Someday they will be beaming ads directly into our brains.

to heck with everyone. if these adds help him out money wise to help pay for the forms then let them stay. I have not even bother looking at them I just keep looking at members post instead.

It's a test for cryin' out loud, it's not like everyone is getting water boarded. Geez.

Really made me laugh out loud that Charlie! :D

I've still not had any ads that I'd consider remotely offensive, or even inanappropriate. I've seen a couple for UK business (outdoor equipment companies) that I shop with anyway, so they seem fairly well targeted, in my case at least.

My only grips is that the ads really slow down page loading times to the point this isn't an enjoyable experience. My internet speeds is bad so I'm perhaps more affected than most.

Hope the feedback is useful, and I'm looking forward to normal service resuming asap.

I see ZERO ads.

I guess my software is working
