I was wondering if anyone can give me any information/opinions on British maker Mike Lamprey's knives? Over the years I have seen pictures of his Ti handled frame locks in the Knives annuals, and they look really nice. Anybody here ever own one, or at least handle one? I don't think I've ever seen this maker mentioned in any of the magazines or forums. I'm interested in his overall level of quality, and particularly the clips he uses. They look very thick in the pictures (though it's hard to tell) and seem like they would not be very "springy".

Thanks,
Paul

Paul.

I too have seen Matt stuff. I recently contacted him. He sent me a color brochure of his folder. It is beautiful. I will be placing an order too.
Matt also help Darrel Ralph with the Madd Max design. His folder seems very well thought out. Looks great open and closed and he thought of the user hand protection. Hope this helps.

I have owned 2 Mike Lamprey folders, and they are exceptional knives, in both form and function. I sold my second this weekend at the Badger show to a dealer friend who has been pestering me for 2 years. The original clips were a bit rigid, but Mike has swapped that out to a more workable, flexible clip. Every piece of the knife is individually crafted by Mike, including the screws. The knife is constantly evolving based on customer feedback, and each knife produced incorporates every feature that Mike can build to make the knife better. Additionally, Mike is one of the most friendly and humble men making knives today, and I'm proud to call him my friend.

I have another on order with Mike, and after Zaza Revishvili played with mine for a while this morning, will be ordering another for Zaza to filigree, and possibly yet another final one to be engraved and onlayed.

I have one of Mike's knives, it was made for me a couple of years ago and so has the chunky clip. Blade is stamascus. The workmanship is amazing. I showed it to a couple of friends who are engineers, they were knocked over by it , they could not believe the quality of the work knowing it is all hand made.
Originally I was going to have a Stellite blade , but it did not work out , the Stamascus alternative is really subtle. I do not think you would be disappointed with one of Mike's knives, they are works of art to my mind.

Thanks for the info guys. I especially appreciate the webpage heads up from fria. I guess I know what is moving to the top of my list. I have a few more questions though.

Does Mr. Lamprey do any shows here in the US?

Has he ever done the Atlanta Blade Show?

Did any of you order knives from him and have them shipped from England? If so, what did shipping set you back?

I only saw one design over at his page, does he do anything other than that? I don't mean steel choices, but overall design. What about custom designs?

Thanks,
Paul

Paul -

Although it's Mike's intent to make it to Atlanta in the next couple of years, he has not yet been.

Mike covered shipping. It's buying English Pounds that costs a few bucks! Actually, Mike had my 2nd knife carried to the US, and then shipped.

I do not think he does any other designs, although he just started work on a fixed blade for himself that may wind up an available pattern.

I agree with evryone else, Mike's knives are great, having handled (but not owned one) Everythng works smoothly, they look great, they feel very good in the hand, and Mike is a very nice guy.

Just my opinion, but I'm not wrong
