Hi all, I'm a "newbie" and unrepentant knife nut. I recently became aware of R.J. Martin's work. I first read about him in Blade, and have visited his website. I like his philosophy, and his knives appear very well made. You guys are the pros-I am continually amazed (and humbled) by how little I know or am aware of (there's just way too much eye candy out there!)-I'd appreciate some feedback about RJ's work from those in the know. Thanks :)

I have never held one of RJ's knives or seen one in person, but I've read pretty much every thread about him here for the last five years. I have yet to see one mention of anything bad about his knives, his service, etc. When it comes to sharpness, I hear in nearly every thread that you won't find anything sharper on the planet unless it's a laser! :D I don't think you can go wrong, but I'm sure owners of his knives will chime in to tell you this, too.

IMO, RJ's knives are worth every penny you pay for them. He is very much into the scientific and technical side of knifemaking and his knowledge of heat treating is very good. He also is a firm believer in using the best materials in his knives and any knife of his I have ever handled has been very comfortable as he does very nice contouring work that just molds to your hand. If you are considering ordering a knife from him (don't know if he is taking orders yet or not) definitely give some thought into getting it made from CPM 3V. Amazing stuff.

I'm a firm believer in R.J.'s work. The man simply makes awesome stuff! Currently, I have several of his knives, and hope to get many more over my lifetime. Next to the word "Sharp" in the dictionary, is a little picture of R.J.'s smiling mug. ;) :)

I have four of R.J.'s knives. One of them, a Kozuka, has been in daily use for over a year. You will be well pleased with any RJ Martin knife and as a bonus RJ is a really great guy to do business with.

I agree wholeheartedly with the others, RJ's knives are fantastic! I own 5, including a folder, and plan to pick up more. To say they are sharp is an understatement, and they fit my hand perfectly. On top of it all, RJ is a great guy - I have visited his shop, and he has helped me out with anything I have ever asked. Watching him grind is a revelation - you can't believe how simple he makes it seems. I had screwed up the grind lines on a knife I was making pretty good - he made like 3 passes on it and completely fixed it!
You cannot go wrong with any of his knives - good luck!

Bill

Ditto....on what everyone else said about RJ. I only own one of his knives right now, but always looking for more.

Thanks for the replies you guys. It's nice to see (hear) such positive feedback from those in the know. I've been looking for a great folder for awhile, and I was originally leaning towards a CRK large classic Sebbie. However, I decided that I would be willing to part with another 25% of the Sebbie to have a first-class handmade folder. I really like RJ's spear-pointed Avenger. IMO it's got great lines. Cash flow is not what it could be at the moment, so I might have to wait a bit, but that should change in the near future. I'll keep you posted. BTW Danbo, nice pictures of Stevie Ray Vaughn. What an incredibly talented guy he was!

Quality, value, style, name. You can't do much better than RJ Martin. Don't hesitate.
