Have just finished the book "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales. It was my third reading.
I was highly impressed. It covered many topics, from the costs on the brain's hardware of long term stress, the use of black humor to control/suppress the fear and aid in training to respond to an emergency, asks the question why people sometimes just do wtf actions, and lots more.
Not a how to kind of book, but more of here's why treatment.
Also points out how sometimes one's training can be a death warrant, and some cases when the least prepared survive while others give up.
Sometimes his style is a little gushy, and he comes from an Extreme sport point of view that is alien to me. He is a writer for SI I believe but have read him elsewhwere.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has read this book and what they thought of it, especially anyone with a perspective/experience on the psychological aspects?
thx in advance

I haven't read it, but you have piqued my curiosity and will acquire a copy.

Hey X39,
Just checked a few days ago, was told the trade paperback edition is due out mid October here in Canada, save about $20 off hardcover. I am waiting.
Both Chapters and McNally Robertson had the hardcover.

Sidewinder, especially liked the ten or so strategies at the end to help cope with stress, no matter the source.

Is Chapters Indigo in States?

uitlander, thanks for the heads up. I'm pretty close to the border, might have to make a run over if the US stores don't stock it.
