Have just finished the book "Deep Survival" by Laurence Gonzales. It was my third reading.
I was highly impressed. It covered many topics, from the costs on the brain's hardware of long term stress, the use of black humor to control/suppress the fear and aid in training to respond to an emergency, asks the question why people sometimes just do wtf actions, and lots more.
Not a how to kind of book, but more of here's why treatment.
Also points out how sometimes one's training can be a death warrant, and some cases when the least prepared survive while others give up.
Sometimes his style is a little gushy, and he comes from an Extreme sport point of view that is alien to me. He is a writer for SI I believe but have read him elsewhwere.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone else has read this book and what they thought of it, especially anyone with a perspective/experience on the psychological aspects?
thx in advance
