I recently had someone ghost a sale (posted "I'll take it", has all messaging turned off, and won't respond to either posts in the thread or visitor messages).

If I leave him negative or neutral feedback, would he be breaking the rules by retaliating? If so, would the mods remove the retaliatory feedback?

Thanks in advance.

If there was no deal you can't leave feedback.
GBU is probably a still a good idea though, right?

In my 13-odd years on here, I've never encountered this situation so I appreciate folks sanity checking my thinking here.

From the Exchange Rules:
If a deal did not happen, there is no iTrader Feedback to leave. Sorry if you were inconvenienced, but life is full of disappointments. As long as you're not out any items or money hasn't changed hands, move along.
Sometimes I wish putting that in the GBU was more of a thing... the ghosting seems to be on the rise lately

Per Exchange Rules

If you must back out of a deal, it is YOUR responsibility to communicate with the other person WHY you are unable to complete the transaction. Make sure this happens BEFORE any money or items have been exchanged. Problems should be attempted to be resolved between the persons involved, before Feedback threads are started.

Not sure how you would go about it, maybe a mod can message him and ask.

If I were you I'd just be glad it didn't go any farther.

Think I'll draft up a GBU thread as a warning. The account he's using is like 12 years old with maybe 100 posts. My guess is that account exists solely for this kind of activity.

For sure. I can imagine this turning into PP cases and other associated BS.

I agree that it's very frustrating when someone backs out of a deal and even more so just disappears after claiming an item. Unfortunately it does seem to be happening more frequently lately.

I'm not sure how a GBU thread on it would go over and maybe talking with the mods first would be a good idea. As frustrating as the situation is I would try to give it a little time and talk to whoever it was and be sure before posting ... I'd hate to drag someone down if the might be a legit reason behind it.

If you sale post was cluttered up from the situation, I would ask a mod to remove the posts and clean it up for you so it's not confusing fir other potential buyers.

Good luck with the sale.

Thanks. I did reach out to the mods regarding GBU and they suggested I go forward with it.

Someone was also kind enough to send me his email address. So I'm drafting him a note. Its fair to say the sale is dead excluding any significant family or personal circumstance and even then I'm disinclined from moving forward.
