Ok, I've done countless searches here and on SF, and I can't make up my mind between the full and the mini manix. One minute I'm solid for the full sized, then the next time I search the forum (and read the same review for the 10th time), I am pretty sure I'll get the mini... I need help deciding! I can't get both right now (I've just purchased 5 Spydies in the last two weeks).

Here's my situation:

I want another EDC knife, and I don't mind big and beefy. Some examples of knives I've carried regularly are a Renegade (my all time fav), and a Native. The Renegade is actually a hair longer (closed and open) than the Full Sized Manix, however I'm aware it's much narrower. I loved the size of the Renegade (especially the length), and it's completely acceptable to carry anything at work (katanas might draw weird looks though). I was actually proud of how big the renegade was... We have an male overcompensation thingy going here at work with who has the biggest weapons... :p

As far as weight, I'm used to carrying much more heavier items concealed on my person, so a knife isn't too noticable to me. Though the Renegade and D'Allara I own are considerably bigger than my smaller FRN Native, I don't notice any of these more than the others. So, I'm ok with heavier, more solid knives. However, I think a Katana might also be an exception to this... ;)

My main cause for consternation is that I want a decent sized blade (I prefer CE blades) and feel the full sized Manix will work better for this. However, I don't want a knife that is so unweildly and gi-normous that it interferes with EDC (then it's useless). My other problem is I'm a firm believer in trying before you buy, but there's no local stores I can go to where I can get a hands-on test drive of these two beasties! I'm near the Madison, WI area. Does anyone know of a local retailer that carries these guys or Spydies in general?

I have fairly decent sized hands (take an XL or size 11 glove), and am curious if anyone has real life photos of the two knives in hand (or in pocket) they're willing to post...

I'm also open to suggestions and opinions about these two great folders. The more the merrier. I'm looking for that person to tip the scales towards one knife or another. I am not in the market for a Katana (at present), so you'll not sway me in that direction ;)

Thanks for all the great advice here in the forum!

I got the full size and find I am not carrying it as much as I expected due to it's giant size. I would now recommend getting a mini after my personal experience.

I personally have been downsizing due to getting an inside job. I will buy a caly 3 as soon as it is available as some are calling it the micro manix. I'm finding that for most of my current cutting jobs a 3" blade works perfect.

I was in the same boat and I decided, after much researching, to get the Mini. It is currently on its way to me. To me the Mini just sounded like a better EDC choice, the Manix sounds like a monster of a knife.

I am the proud owner of a full size Mannix.
Can't be EDC because of local laws (UK).
Best way to decribe it: Wow!
It's huge yet perfectly blanced, outstanding ergonomics and great steel.
Since you're between the full size and the mini, steel and G10 alike.
Big hands will probably fit full size better but I think you should look at it from another angle:
Is there anything in your context to justify a smaller knife (marginally smaller, I may add).
I do not hink you will notice a difference in weight or bulk between the 2 when you EDC.
just my 2p

I'm one that's waiting for the Caly 3:D I tend to carry a bunch of blades with me constantly and finally got to pick up both. For me, the mini would probably be the most useful. I didn't buy either - even the mini was not so mini:eek: If my EDC requirements were perhaps different, I probably would have bought one of them - it simply broke down to cost vs. use at that moment in time. If I thought I would use it more, the cost would have not played into it. I already have a bunch of quite "robust" folders, if you will, in my Al-Mar SERE 2K, Para Military, Buck/Strider 887 SBT, etc., and just don't use them that much. My Enduras get used before, usually. Just at that point in my collecting where use is at the forefront. Despite the intent, it wouldn't surprise me if I just bought one "because":D Despite the weight, they are VERY nice....... I ended up 4 Delica 4's instead of one "because":)

I think I'm full now... Just ordered a Full Sized Manix CE today. It will ship out tomorrow. I also had the shop send me a new 204 Sharpmaker, so I can keep my blades nice and sharp!

All in all, I got a great deal, $149 for both shipped (with insurance). The guy I ordered from over the phone, cautioned me about how big the Manix is... Now I'm a tad scared I bought the wrong one... Dang! Well, if I have to keep eating, a Mini-Manix might not be a bad dessert.

Feel free to keep telling me your opinions of the two knives... The next few days will be hard, waiting for my new knife to arrive (you all know what I mean). So, give me a fix please. Post some cool pics or tell me some cool stories to tide me over...

Thanks for all the advice!

waiting for this bg42 carbon fiber millie is driving me nuts!! theres a story for you!

I got the Mini myself and I just love it. If the truth be told, i don't think there is a heck of a size difference, so you should be ok with the full size. Enjoy!

Yup, love the manix. It's been my EDC for over two weeks. Yes, it's heavier than most, but not a hinderence.
