Junkyard and I know each other from off the forums, and as we were talking today, he mentioned that I had wanted to get some guys together, and do some outdoor kinda stuff.
So, that got me thinking....
Here are the basics....
1. Informal - No real hard rules, bring what you like, do what you like, camp how you like. Mind-altering substances kept to the fermented kind, remember "Idaho, come on vacation, leave on parole."
2. North Idaho - We have many, many places we could get together, I may not be able to site us next to the most beautiful vistas ever, but I can get us into some really beautiful North Idaho. Water should not be a problem.
3. Best Gear - I figure we could car camp, drive in to a spot, so that we could bring a bunch of gear, if you want. Then we could show off our gear, let other guys play with stuff they have not had access to, previously. And if some knifemakers or other folks wanted to bring some goods, all the merrier.
4. Best Practices - If we can find some people who want to share some of their knowledge, then we could loosely organize some classes. This could be nature walks. This could be a drive through the mountains (we did this last year, and it was really quite cool) This could be an opportunity for instructors, to find some future students. Or if you are just pretty good at something, we could do a some forums, led by a couple people sharing what they have found works for them. The fellowship of this kind of event is very important, and this sort of meeting the the 'minds' is pretty important too. I want everyone to have the chance to learn something. Depending on what shakes out, I might lead a forum on fire making and building, I do okay at that.... oldpinecricker could show us how to fall a tree.
5. Timing - I was thinking of doing this in the fall, say, September, when it is a little cooler, the worst of a potential Indian Summer would be likely done. Cool days, perfect for hikes or drives, cooler nights, perfect for white man fires. We could get a skiff of snow, but it is unlikely.
6. Culture - If anyone wanted to show up early, I could play tour guide, take you all to the best burger places. You could see the lakes, Coeur d'Alene and Pend Oreille. Anyway, there is a bunch to do, and it really beautiful here.
So, then, I have some places in mind for locations, but it depends how many are likely to come....
I can account for a few, Junkyard, oldpinecricker, my two brothers, a close friend and myself.
How many of you would be interested?
And please let me know how interested you are... Like "Yes, no matter what, if you organize it, I will be there!" Or, "Short of major pains, I should be there" Or, "Well, if I can find the ziploc, I might could come, if my dog doesn't find out."
Junkyard, feel free to add anything you can think of....
And if anyone has any suggestions for activities, or other ideas, feel free to add them.
