I want to put out some feelers on this idea, about 3-5 years ago we had 4 big 150 year old pecan trees blow over in our orchard. They have since spaulted very nicely and I am considering cutting some up and stabilizing it. How many would be interested in trading or buying some and what size you you be interested in? Obviously knife handle sizes but there are many other uses for wood. Trades I am interested in would mostly be more wood of different types. Here is a sampler of what I have most is at least this spaulted but some is not quite as good.

Here is a picture of a Christmas ornament I turned last year. It does have some worm holes in it but am going to be choosy about what I use.

I would be interested in trading for unstabilized material. I don't have any wood to trade, but I do have some of my damascus I would be willing to trade. I like big chunks. :)
Thanks,
Del

you know I sure like that, I would possibly be interested in .25x1.5x12 stabilized. And maybe 2x2x12 unstabilized.

Please pm me more info.

I would be in for 5 sets of 5x1.5x.25 scales, Stabilized.

Cant do a trade but I would sure buy them if offered for sale.

I think wood like that has been stabilized by a reputable company would sell like hotcakes.

I agree with Darrin - it would probably sell.

I'd love some stabilized spalted scales.

Pecan is a relative of hickory, correct? I've always wanted to find some good figured hickory. Do any of the four trees have any burls, good crotch wood or good root wood? Man, then you'd REALLY be talking. I'll keep an eye out for you in the For Sale forum.

Thanks for the input guys my biggest issue right now is not having a good way to cut the blanks into nice neat squares. It might take me a while to get this rolling and who knows it might be too far gone by now.:o

I'd probably buy an untreated chunk of wood - less profit for you than making scales and heat treating, but also less risk and less work.
