So, many of you have probably seen my thread about how I'm not interested in traditional knives. It seems like the majority of knife people love them, and I tried to understand why. Well, now I know. I, like most, love using things that were used by past generations and when I saw that some designs by Case, Queen, or GEC were used during the times of World War 1 and 2, I finally became attracted to them.

With my new knowledge and understanding, I went to Cabela's yesterday to look at some traditional knives. I saw the Case Copperlock in blue bone and loved it. Is this a good knife for the money?

Thanks!

I love the Copperlock. There should be NO discernible play with the blade locked open, and should be hair-popping sharp out of the box.

A Case Copperlock is a good knife to transition into traditional knives. Biggest thing for Case knives is being able to handle & inspect them beforehand. I've bought a few Case knives that had small issues (uneven grinds) that could of been avoided if I'd been able to check out the knife before buying.

The next thing to understand is that the stainless steel they are using is not some modern super steel like S90V. Accept it's abilities & limitations.

Nice knives though. I have one I was gifted back in 1999? Ugliest stag on a knife I have ever seen. Some fond hunting memories with it so it sticks around. I've considered getting new scales on it at times.

Welcome to the slippery slope of traditional knives. Blink and you will have a dozen.

Highly recommended. Jump in and get your feet wet.
Every one of mine (and every other one I've ever handled) have no blade play at all. Some say that blade play is inherent in the design of a lockback, but in my experience, Case knows nothing about that old and overused excuse for poor fitment. Beware the wire edge that Case's Trusharp is known for and you'll have a most excellent slicer in hand and a knife entirely capable of hard work, if need be.

Yes, it's an excellent knife for the money. Welcome to the traditional side. The good news is that you don't have to chose between modern and traditional; you can have them both!

Seems like I recall finally seeing a red CV model not long ago. For those of us that like the design but don't prefer the stainless ( in general, not just case)
