I'm basically looking for an excuse to get myself a new Point Guard, and i was thinking of a gift for the missus. She is losing her fear of my knives, since finding that having a Boy Scout (me) around is handy - like when they serve large food and no decent knife to cut it with. She can handle my lockback Rookie fine. I'm wondering if the Mirage might be a nice, light, affordable piece for her, to just clip in the baby's bag and have available. Is the liner lock more difficult for a woman with nails than my Spyderco lockbacks ? What's the quality level of this knife ?

RH:
IMO the CRKT Mirage is an excellent knife quality and cutting-wise. I have both a full-size and small one.

On the small one, unlocking the liner should be no problem, but I find if I unlock my large one *a lot* in one day, I might get a bit of a "sore thumb." However, the liner engages nicely and is rock-solid.

Another thing you might check out regarding the Mirage...I find the studs' position forces me to wedge in and push with the back of thumbnail to get an easy push-open, as the studs are cylindrical, close to, and fairly level w/the handle. It may or may not be a problem for your wife. Otherwise, I really do love this knife!

IMHO, it's possible the Spyderco lockbacks are a bit easier to operate, but your best bet is to let her try out different knives for herself.

My girlfriend doesn't like my mirage, she says it's too heavy. Maybe she is right : if you compare it to a Spydie it's probably a little too heavy and bulky.
What about a Lightfoot urban Shark(crkt Lus)? It's small , lightweight , the blade has a nice finish (a little shinier than the usual bead blast) and it's Grey instead of "Boring Macho-black". My girlfriend loves it.

Well, I'd be careful cuddling up to it at night.

Oh, nevermind, I just read your post...you don't want to *marry* one...

How about a pair of Point Guards? Then maybe she'll understand why you wanted the knife so bad and she won't give you any grief on future knife purchases.

You could put nacho cheese sauce on it...

I gave mine a Kershaw Hawk,in G-10. She carries it every day and likes it. SHe has small hands and it works well for her. The only change I had to make was using loctite on the clip retention screws.

Get the new Titanium "Gentle(person's)" Mirage. Looks like a real winner. If she doesn't like it, send it to me

I have a small Wharncliffe and it is the cat's meow!!!

I haven't actually handled a mirage, but I like how they look. I just ordered one from cumberland-knives. Just click on their monthly specials, at less than $20 for the smaller version I figured how can I afford NOT to get one.

RH,
My wife likes my Mirage Gray Ghost elegant design and fine bead blast finish, modest and noble she says. But this full-sized tactical folder is certainly too heavy and bulky for lady's carry.
If your wife likes this design I would advise to choose between spear-point and Wharncliffe blade 3-inched versions.
Or if you have not hurry - wait for Mirage Titanium. I have handled prototype at IWA'2000 gun show in March, it looks, feels and works really cool!

Ladies could behold it more as decoration than as tool or weapon. However this nicely looking toy is true knife which will not let your wife down in any imaginable circumstance.
