Edge rolling vs. chipping

Does anyone here have any experience with how Fehrmans behave in that respect after heavy chopping? More specifically, would CPM-3V tend to "roll" (similar to INFI) rather than chip on hard impact?

Thanks,

George

Mine have neither rolled or chipped, I chopped through dense bone with no problem at all.

The Fehrman blades are strong blades with GREAT slicing ability for there size.

While I don't (YET) own a Fehrman knife, I can only imagine that the 3V would tend to roll rather than chip. At least, that's been my experience with 3V. I have a test blade I ground out of 3V, and I got a little too thin(likely a lot thinner than Fehrman grinds their blades) with the grind. I went to chop some wood, and the edge bent, ever so slightly. I don't imagine the Fehrman 3V blades would do anything except laugh at chopping wood.

Thanks for your replies guys.

Your comments are definitely not helping my financial situation, since I've been craving one of those Final Judgements for a while now. :D

Take care,

George

3V is a fairly ductile steel, you can deform it quite a bit before it will tear. A lot comes out in the heat treat though, Phil Wilson tested a few blades at higher hardness levels, and even with full cryo they were brittle at ~62 HRC (damaged on knots), so he dropped it down. The toughness has a massive peak at around 58 HRC which is abotu where would be optimal for large knives.
