I recently picked up a Fehrman Extreme Judgement, great knife by the way, but I noticed when comparing the handle thickness to my First Strike the scales seem to be about 1/8 thinner on the EJ. Is this normal? Any info would be appreciated. Both handles feel great, I am just curious.

I will look at mine and get back to you about them. Did you take them off and measure them?

Blade thickness looks as if it matches and when I measure the overall handle thickness it's about 1/4" difference

Fehrman changed the handles from the very early knives produced. The early handles were a little bit thicker and the edges were not quite as rounded. I like the newer handles better.

That makes perfect sense my first strike is a very early one, the EJ is newer production. On a side note I just took the EJ out for a real spin on the way to clean up a goose blind and this thing is insane. I highly recommend it!

All of our large knives use 1/4" stock for handle material. The thickest part of any large knife handle should be 1/4" then contoured from that point. We have made some custom handles that are thicker, but I doubt that is what you have. Enjoy your blades!

Dodgeem33,
From what I see in the pics, the two sets of handles you have are show slight modifications we have made in the ergonomics of the handles (not one being the original style handle). The handle material thickness that we receive may vary slightly from lot to lot but generally we seek to maintain .250" nominal thickness, in rare instances we have received material that was under size by .008" (the approximate thickness of 2 human hairs). The coated knife will be thicker than the satin because of the coating itself, coupled with the radius on the coated knife being slightly smaller makes the overall assembled handle thickness looks more than what it actually is. One of your post says the overall thickness is 1/4" different from one knife to the other - if that is actually the case you may have one of the rare sets of handles that were custom made from 5/16" or 3/8" material, the pics don't really look like that is the case. If you use a pair of verniers or micrometers to measure the overall thickness between the to blades you would probably see .025" difference, if more one set is most likely a custom set.
