Hi Guys, been a while, just wondering if any one has handled a Fehrman knife, the 7" model, if so whats the verdict, how would it hold up as an all rounder, camp chores, survival knife blah, blah, blah. Also, would it come out on top in a showdown with a Steel Heart?

Thanks guys.

Hey Pointy,

I own the 9 inch model"the Final Judgement" and can tell you this,The knife is perfect for my needs. It chops great and its the sharpest big blade I own.
If it came down to which one do I prefer, between my Battle Mistress or my Fehrman Final Judgement,Ill pick my Final Judgement.

Why is that, the two knives look almost identical, well nearly, but you know what I mean, I posted over in Busse forums asking about the Steel Heart, just incase, Fehrman is new to me, I seem to have missed the boat, I talked to Eric, very sound character and excellent help, Ron Hood also gives the knives top marks, but what sets them apart from the pack? They are sexy pieces of steel though. Ideal world, buy them all.

Pointy,

I dont think the question is whats sets them apart,
First let me say that in person they look a little alike but thats as far as it goes.
My Fehrman had better cosmetics, meaning it seems like there was more detail put into it.Ahhhhhhh its very hard to explain.
For instance, the edges on the spine to the butt end where the lanyard hole is to the choil are all rounded perfectly,The rubber gaskets between the handle slabs and tang were flush as were the handle slabs.

It also has a 2 postion thumb ramp which aids when choking up on the blade, which is great when doing fine work with a big blade.
But trust me when I say that when you hold both knives, you will see that they are very different.

They're all excellent blades. The real distinction comes down to what feels best in your hands. Personally, I find the Fehrman to be the most comfortable all-around knife in the "Sweet Jesus!" size category (the big choppers), but the Swamp Rat Camp Tramp is pretty damn hard to beat in the 7" camp knife category, especially for the price. But the Fehrman's handle slabs are thicker, more contoured and just plain fit my hands better than almost anything else I've ever held.

I have been incredibly impressed with Fehrman's version of CMP3V. It is remarkably tough, holds a screaming edge forever and can be driven tip first into concrete without deformation -- don't ask, it was an accident  . I don't have as much experience with INFI, so I can't make a direct comparison. But I do know that INFI is one of the more highly regarded super steels out there. In truth, the Fehrman, Swamp Rat and Busse all have great steel and except in the most extraordinary circumstances will anyone notice a significant difference between them.

Read the thread, it might help. It even has pictures .
