I should be getting the "Last Chance" tomarrow and I have a "First Strike" on order.
These will be my first Fehrman Knives and I was wondering what you forumites think of them and those who might have some/one, how do you like their performance?

I have owned a couple and I think they are very nicely built, high performance knives. I don't have any currently just because other things came along that I wanted more, but that was an issue of preference, not any qualms with the quality. Their lines are simple but the fit and finish is very high, good (and consistent) factory edge geometry, and their ergonomics were very good in terms of being simple, hand-shaped, and well rounded to not create any hotspots. The smaller handles--as on the Peace Maker--are too small for my hands, but the full size knives fit me well.

The sheaths (at least the ones that came with mine) are kinda' bread 'n butter in their design, but are nicely put together and fit the knives well.

Both of mine were the bead blast finish. If I were buying again, I would go coated--not for the blades so much as the exposed tangs, as my hands seem to rust most non-stainless steels very easily and 3V is far from stainless (and if rust really gets going on it, tends to pit deeply). That said, it is also a very tough steel for having so much lateral strength and abrasion resistance. In all regards but stain resistance, its performance is actually what the industry at large keeps trying to convince people that S30V's is. ;)

I think you'll like 'em, be sure to let us know when they get to you.

t1...
Thanks for the brief rundown. I am in a quandry now whether or not to order another Fehrman or get my 3rd. Trident. I am leaning very strongly towards another Trident as I have 2 now and am very impressed...Tank killers!

I have a question for you muzzleup, about how long was the wait to get one? I've been looking for a very tough neck knife (something I can baton and pry with), and the Thru Hiker seems to fit the bill and is cheaper and possibly more available than some others that I've considered.

Thanks.

I would wait until they arrive, try them for a bit, and then make your decision. They may show up and not be as much to your tastes as the Tridents, or maybe they get there and after a few minutes have you saying, "Trident who?"

ehhh,
According to their web page, delivery time is estimated to be 2 to 4 weeks but I would bet if they have the neck knife in stock you could get it in a shorter period of time.

Send them an email and check out their web page.
fehrman@byesville.net
is one of the email addresses.

check them out, I am considering the neck knife myself.

Thanks, I just wanted to hear how long it actually took you to get it cuz sometimes estimates can be a bit misleading. Sorry for the off-topic too.

I have a First Strike and a Peacemaker. I have medium hands, and the PM is perfectly sized for me. In fact, I think it has the *best* ergonomics of any small fixed blade that I've held so far. It is wonderful, and the 3V holds it's edge at least as good as D2 in abrasive media, at least what I've seen so far. The FS is good also, very good attention to detail. It's a little big for my hands, I'm thinking of having them take off the finger grooves, but I'm still thinking about that one.

All in all, I like these knives very much, especially the PM. I would like to see a pic of the necker in someone's hand to get a better idea of size. I hope you like yours!

Ehhh,
It took just about the full 4 weeks for them to ship my Last Chance and then it takes about another 10 days to reach Washington State. Mine should be here today according to the tracking # via UPS ground.

Wow, ehh, wow, I think I am just overwhelmed by this little monster (5.5"blade). The knife has and absolutly outstanding fit and finish and the handle feels so good in my hand there are no words to describe just how comfortable this handle is. My wife who usually just says "yuk, I don't like that knife" has changed her tune. She even asked me to tell everyone how much she likes the feel of the handle on this Last Chance.
This knife feels sooo strong that it makes you feel that you can demolish a house with it. Even with the 5.5" blade it is quite heavy but carries comfortably in the Kydex sheath.

Now I don't know what I want to do....get another Fehrman or get another Trident. I thought the Tridents felt kind of heavy and strong but I have to say that the Fehrman feels a lot stronger in the hand.
I will be putting up some pictures maybe tomarrow.

Ciao
