Hi all

I have been eyeing off a Ferhman First strike. I can't get it out of my head and before I pull the trigger on one, I thought I would ask here if anyone has experience with them (good or bad)

I have not seen or held one in the flesh but my research so far tells me I'm onto a winner.

It's billed as a survival / camp knife. Made of great steel.

What say all of you??

I asked the same a while ago and got nothing but good responses on it. 3V is an excellent steel, one of the best and the Fehrman people are known for being great folks that stand behind their products with excellent customer service...don't wait, just go out and grab one! Trust me! I don't own one, but I know the steel and have heard the right things from the right people...I'll get one eventually...don't really need it though :p I already have a few Busse's to use :D...I've heard the handles on the Fehrmans are very ergonomic to boot :D PULL THE TRIGGER MAN!!

I have had one for about 6 months. I love it. Nothing that I would want to change on it.
Get one - you won't be disappointed!

Well I posed this same question on another forum and basically got lots more of the same responses.

Just confirms my thoughts, I'll have to pull the trigger now on a satin First Strike plus sheath :D

Thanks fellas

My Fehrman is the most comfortable fixed blade knife I have ever had in my hand. And, Eric Ferhman is one great guy to talk with when ordering...

Giant...

Not too long ago I had the same questions. I bought a Fehrman Last Chance and LOVED the ergos and build quality of the knife. I no longer own that knife because I was hooked by the aesthetic appeal of the Busse line of knives. I will, one day, own another Fehrman, though. They are rock-solid knives made by a good group of people. Buy one...you won't have any complaints.

I would suggest, however, that if you're looking for a kydex sheath you get that from someone else. It's not that Fehrman's sheaths are bad, but the kydex was thin and I wasn't too happy about the retention. It would hold the knife find tip down, but would NOT work for tip up carry. There are plenty of other sheath makers out there who will make you a FANTASTIC product at a good price.

Thanks for the heads up.

As it happens I sprung the $35 for a sheath when I ordered the knife, but I did have reservations about a sheath that only costs $35. :p

I'll wait and see what it looks like when I get it. Trouble is that a sheath from a good maker usually has a long wait. I have two on order for other knives and the wait is measured in months

Ah well....... :)

You know my thoughts on Fehrman knives mate. I am sure you will love it. My Shadow Scout should be in next week....

Actually, I've heard the leather holsters are better than the kydex. And again, the kydex wsn't bad, just didn't have the retention I wanted.

I'm sure the reason they can afford to do the sheaths so inexpensively is because it's all in-house, versus having to go out of house. They're in the business of selling knives, and they know users are going to need sheaths. They rightly figure that people would rather get their knife WITH a sheath than have to wait to put it on and work it out. I personally wanted leather, but I also wanted the option to go tip up on a pack, so for my Busse Badger Attack Tac, I went with one of Rob Hummelbaugh's Survival Sheaths (with a custom kydex sleeve) from www.survivalsheath.com, and Rob had it to me in less than 10 days. Also, I KNOW Rob has a blank for the Last Chance, so he may have one for the First Strike. Why not check his forum here on BF...he was actually having a sale last week.
