Fehrman knives don't seem to get much mention, so though i should post about my Peace Maker knife and sheath which arrived yesterday. WOW ! very solid piece of CPM-3V steel, beautiful drop point blade, extremely sharp, comfortable handle, perfect balance, nice thick leather sheath holds it securely. this knife is READY to do a lifetime of outdoor work. i do not like big blades so i chose this one which is 4 inches and it is such a sturdy piece, i cannot imagine any back country chore that it is not up to. it inspires confidence. rather than post a pic., check out their website: www.fehrmanknives.com. this is now my favorite fixed blade. i doubt if it is ever going to get displaced. thank you Mr. Fehrman !

I agree with you. The ergonomics on this one are right on, and it really performs well. This is one of my favorite smaller fixed blades.

Enjoy!

I emailed Fehrman two weeks ago about ordering a knife and still have not received a reply. I had a few questions, but still no answer. On the web site it says email is the best way to contact them. Can you tell me how you contacted them and how long it currently takes to get one of their knives. I am interested in a satin First Strike. Thanks...

I've always called them. If they have inventory, they usually ship pretty quickly, then they didn't, it took me a couple of weeks to get one.

i ordered the Peace Maker online feb. 15th and received it march 6th. that includes the slight delay for processing by Canada Customs. if you have not heard back from your email, try phoning. i'm sure when you receive your knife you will agree it is well worth any extra effort on your part.

cool, let us know how it works in the field. i've been looking at those, just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

At the risk of starting a rant fest, I will ask this one question. Between the $180.00 Peace maker, and the $128.00 Howling Rat LM, which do you think is the better knife? Hopefully somebody around here happens to have both. Both are 4" blades, the Rat has a little longer handle, the Peace Maker has a functional finger choil which has gone away on the current iteration of the Rat. 3V and modified 52100 are both great steels with lots of toughness and wear resistance. Both handles are micarta. HMMMMMMM really tough choice.

It's a very tough choice. Here is a picture of both, along with a HR with respirene c. I'd be happy with any of them, although if I had to pick, it would be the Fehrman. I like the ergonomics the best. I like them all, so it would be a hard choice indeed.

The finger choil on the Fehrman is just the right size for my hands, and the thumb depression on the spine is a little forward of the choil, which, for my hands, is a little more comfortable in a pinch grip. YMMV. I would be very comfortable with any as my only fixed blade in the woods, especially the res-c model in the winter!
