Fehrman Peacemaker or Bark River Bravo-1

I searched Google extensively and the search feature on the Bladeforums website, and nothing. I'm looking for comparison shots of the Peacemaker and Bravo-1. It appears that there used to be a thread that had them, but the pictures were deleted for some reason. I THINK I've narrowed down what I want for my next fixed blade, and these two knives seem to fit the bill. What seems to be the biggest issue for me finding the blade for "me", is that I am addicted to things that are OD/Foliage green. I'm looking for a general use EDC, thick spined, 3.5 - 5 inch blade with green scales and reputable steel. I am also particularly fond of satin blades and jimping, which I realize the Bravo-1 won't have if I order it rampless. Other knives I've been considering are : Esee-4, OKC Ranger Falcon, OKC Ranger RD-4 and Zero Tolerance 0121.

I not mind carrying a heavier knife, nor am I restricted by law from carrying a longer, heavier knife. I'm a larger person with larger hands, and I appreciate a knife with heft. The Ranger RD-4/Esee-5/Fehrman LC might be a little too much heft though. Speaking of which, the Ranger RD-4 and Faherman LC look very similar to me, yet I have not been able to locate any comparison shots on these either.

On a side note, on average how much would it cost to have a knife customized from a custom maker given my criteria for a knife? Does anyone know of any custom makers that could make something like this for under $300?

Thanks, Ya'll

You can get a Bravo 1 with jimping and green scales; they've got both green canvas micarta (more of a dark green), and a ghost green, which is a lighter one.

Borrowed images from Knives Ship Free, hopefully they don't mind.

Talk to Scott Gossman or Bruce Culberson they can make anything you can dream of. Also look at some of Jeremy Hortons knives. They are on the custom makers forum. Scott did one I named the M.U.S.K that is 3/16 thick 4 inch blade that is1 1/2 inches wide and 4 1/2 inch handle of a2. do a search for MUSK I think it will fill your bill and come in your price range.

Also there will be some runs of the Bravo-1 in both CPM-S35VN and CPM-3V if you don't mind waiting.

have the bravo 2 in a2 steel, just an awsome knife. thinking of getting the bravo 1 as a companion.

I've owned both the A2 and CPM-154 Bravo 1s - I sold them and kept my Peacemaker.

The Bravo 1 is a larger, thicker, fatter knife - the handle is large and makes use of this knife a bit weird. I'd say it's too large of a knife for its category. The Peacemaker is a compact, well balanced knife with admittedly small handle - but this is a design feature I think a lot of people misunderstand - the smaller handle allows the PM to be much more maneuverable and choking up allows for a full grip for finer work. When I choke back on my PM it literally becomes a tiny ax for chopping down small things. I like the fact that they're serialized too and come from a small shop.

Whether or not the price is worth it that's completely up to you. If you see yourself holding onto this knife for a while might as well buy the best you can and venturing out to the high $200's - $300's will buy you a lifetime piece.

By the way, when I contacted Fehrman... they told me that if I sent them handle scales with the necessary specs... they'd use that for my knife.

You might want consider a CRK Nyala too.

Thanks for the input folks. You've given me some more things to consider. It doesn't look like the Peacemaker is available used anywhere at the moment. With the kydex sheath, Fehrman wants $315, new. YIKES!! For that money I feel that the custom market might be a better choice. I sure do like the looks of the blade though.

I would consider Fehrman knives to be custom. Also the knives you have listed is quite the veriety as far as blade steel goes. 1095,A2,3V. I am debating on getting a fehrman or waiting for the Bark River Bravo 1.5 in 3V. Wish I could afford both at this time.

Will the Bravo 1.5 essentially be the same knife as the bravo 1, but with the 3V steel?

A2 is very good steel, I have used it. Fehrman's 3v wins out in edge retention and toughness IMO.... There are several reviews of his knives on BF, do a search to check them out. Good luck.

Man I say go with a Custom knife maker, we have so many talented and fine knife makers here that could work with you with a $300 budget. You will get exactly what you want, with the materials you want. To your specs.
The more I look at custom knife makers the less point I see in buying production.

My possible EDC, I need to verify some laws, is on it's way to me from Alan Davis.
