Its a rare thing that I find a knife I like so much I just have to sing it to the forum, but I really scored on this one! I just picked up my first Fehrman; the Shadow Scout. The Shadow Scout is a full tang survival/utility bowie knife made from Fehrman's CPM-3V. Upon receiving the knife, I was immediately impressed with the craftsmanship. The knife arrived shaving sharp, the spine is slightly radiused, and the green linen micarta has been sanded down to be very forgiving on the users hands. The ergonomics are spectacular! I have large hands, and the Shadow Scout fits perfectly in my hand...both choking up on the choil and standard grip. The specs are as follows:

Blade Size: 6" x 1.25" x .19"
Overall Length: 10.5"
Steel: CPM-3V
Hardness: 57-59 Rc
Handle: Linen Micarta

So I used the Shadow Scout around the house doing food prep and box dismantling for the recycle bin. VERY useful design in both regards. When I find a knife I truly love, the first thing I do with it is go out to my chopping block...and pound the hell out of it through a log (call me wierd :p). The Shadow Scout's thinner stock really helped to slip right in to the wood's grain, and split 'em apart with ease. Minimal coating wear and some missing crinkle coat was all that I noticed. I also choked back on the grip and slashed away at a forsythia bush in front of my house after using it as a baton. It will still very sharp, and chopped away at the forsythia with ease. I didn't have time to do any further tests, but I will be using this knife...HARD...in the near future. I will be sure to take some more pictures, and give some more thoughts.

Final thought: this is an EXCELLENT knife for the value! If you are in the market for a true "jack of all trades" survival/utility knife, I can't say enough good things about the Scout. Thanks for having a look at my brief and half-assed review!

Thanks for your review. Any chance for some more "in-hand" shots? I'm thinking about picking up a Shadow Scout as well as I already own the Peacemaker and wonder what another 2" does to the performance of that design.

Cool review man  but it kind of has the same lines as a certain rat i recently acquired from you. :) Thanks bro now beat it. :D:D

great knife, only drawback is for some with L or XL hands they find handle is a bit short - that's why I regretfully sold mine. Otherwise outstanding!

I like the knife. The lines look good. Puts me in mind of one of the Swamp Rat models, but i like that handle better.

Beautiful knife! I've always convinced myself that I didn't need one, now you've sown the seeds of doubt, and my Peacemaker is starting to grumble about being alone. Thanks a lot. :D

Yep, I have one too. It's a definite keeper! Nice choice! Fehrman ROCKS. I see you have the leather sheath, I opted for kydex. What is your opinion of the sheath?

I also like the Shadow Scout. In fact, I've been eying it for quite some time. The only thing that's prevented me from buying one is the fact that I've got a Straight-Handled Satin Jack CG. I couldn't see the need for both blades. But from what I can gather, they're definitely in the same league with each other. I've got to get a 3V blade one of these days, though.

Fehrman was doing this style before swamprat. They copied the "trigger" style guard when they moved away from the resiprene handles to micarta.
