Hi Everyone,
Well I just finished my first knife in 5 years! Feels pretty dang good.
I will be selling 10 of the Prototype Fell Beast Legacy Prime in 52100 on Thursday at 7:00 EST in the knifemakers fixed blades for sale area here https://www.bladeforums.com/forums/for-sale-fixed-blades.754/
In the future I will have blades in stock and ordering will be much easier.
What are the differences between the new Legacy Prime model and the Classic Fell Beast?
1. A stock size increase from .110 to .135 for extra durability and chopping power
2. CNC machined bevels that are much thinner and higher than the original for extra deep bites
3. An updated handle that is slightly shorter and more ergonomic
4. A new differential heat treat that provides the best durability yet.
These prototype blades were made to test what is possible with bevel machining. With these, we were able to get the bevels down to finished thickness and survive heat treat which is a game changer. However, we still have some work to do on the tooling to make the mill marks cleaner. Believe it or not, these long ultra thin blades are very difficult to mill even for a highly skilled machinist due to how thin the steel is. Some of these are prettier than others but all of them will have some choppy areas where there was chatter on the mill. Also the tang is very slightly proud in a couple areas but does not cause any discomfort.
These blades are not perfect but they will make great users. The scales are compatible with future runs and because the tolerances are tight you can buy another set of scales and change them out easily.
The bevels are nice and thin and bite DEEP. I think you will be blown away with the sheer chopping power these things have. It will make your 12in bowie feel like a toy.
For pricing, because these are prototypes, I'm offering these at the lowest price point I possibly can and covering CONUS shipping.
Future runs including the Z tuff run will be more expensive. These blades cost an exorbitant amount to make. A Fell Beast uses 4X the steel, 3X the handle material, 4X the tooling, and cost 4X as much to heat treat as a 5in utility knife, many of which sell for about the same price. I'm doing the best I can to keep these affordable but a 2 foot long knife is expensive to make and there isn't much I can do about it.
So, If you want a Fell Beast you can really beat on and use hard at a pretty solid price point, I think this is the sale for you!
