Americanized tanto!! I know, crazy, huh? :D But, be that as it may, I have once again come to appreciate this wacky blade style. It took a week or two of cutting to become re-acquainted with the angles I use with this blade. However, the more I use it, the more I like it. The knife that got me back into this shape is the Cold Steel Gunsite 2. I really love the blade shape. But, there are a couple things I'd change about it -

-the handle would benefit from steel liners
-the blade pivot oughta be a screw, not a pin
-the handle needs a more pronounced front finger guard.

With that in mind, does such a knife exist? It would have:
- 4" americanized tanto blade, as close in length as possible (in either direction)
- decent front finger guard
- strong lock, whether it be a rugged lockback, a frame lock, an axis, etc.
- as close to $100 as possible
- not too concerned about handle material, but definitely want steel liners
- don't care whether or not it has assisted opening

So, guys, that's your mission, should you choose to accept it - recommend a knife that matches my description as closely as possible. I'm definitely not financially capable of plunking down $400 for a knife, so Striders are out...

Thanks for the help!

Two of Emerson designs come to mind (both are kind of rare so keep and eye out):
Benchmade 975 (long CQC-7)
1. 4" blade
2. Good gaurd and Egros
3. strong lock
4. Maybe $100 plus on Ebay
5. G-10 scales and Titanium liners
6. Thumb disc opener, plenty fast

Emerson I & I Tanto
1. 4" blade
2. Very good gaurd and Egros
3. strong lock
4. The $ 150+ range
5. G-10 scales and Titanium liners
6. Thumb disc opener, plenty fast

I'm sure there is alot more out there.

Sounds like you need a SOG vision (or night vision), I think it meets your specifications perfectly. :)

You can see pictures of mine here.

Unlike the Gunsite, the Emersons are chisel grinds.
Good point, Esav. I really prefer a standard grind to a chisel grind, but, hey, one never knows what one will learn when one allows oneself to step outside of one's comfort zone... was that enough "ones" for y'all? :p But, it's still true....

Thanks for the tips, guys! The Night Vision is lookin' nice, although I'd prefer a slightly larger blade, if possible, especially if I'm lookin' at serrations, too... still, it's very nice and still available online... I'll have to do some 'net searching on the other knives listed, as I'm not familiar with them, off-hand... food for thought and some eye candy for desert! Keep 'em rollin'!
