Fenix - Carrying with bezel tightened?

Alright so I once owned a Fenix PD30, used to keep the bezel tightened down so that when I turned the flashlight on it was in turbo mode by default. After about a month the flashlight broke in that I could not get the light to disengage turbo mode no matter how much I loosened the bezel. I've been wondering about this for a while - did I just get a lemon or is it not good to keep the bezel constantly screwed to the point of having turbo engaged? I'm thinking of buying one of the new PD20+ (yay pocket clip!), but I really prefer being able to carry the light with the tightened bezel so that the light is on turbo by default when i draw and turn it on.

Thanks for any input :)

I have an L2D which is almost always in turbo and I haven't had that problem. Almost always isn't always, though. I would make sure the batteries were fresh and if that didn't work, contact the company or the seller about that.

Keeping the bezel tight should have no bearing on your loss of output levels.

+1, my thoughts exactly

send it back to Fenix would be my recommendation. I have on my belt a pd30 and I leave it in turbo most of the time w/ no trouble (not saying it could happen)

This particular issue with my PD30 has been resolved. I had ordered it and had it for a month when the problem cropped up. I did all the swabbing down with alcohol as was suggested on fenix's website to the head and tail caps - problem persisted. The batteries I used were these ones (http://yourcornerstore.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21776). I had swapped out the ones currently in the light with another set from the same pack, still had the problem. I ultimately contacted the retailer and they took the light back and offered me a refund.

I just wanted to know if the tightened bezel carry was a poor practice or if I just happened to get a lemon that conked out after a few weeks. Lemons happen and I understand that, in which case I wouldn't mind ordering a new Fenix :) But if carrying a tightened bezel was a problem, I'd have to really think over purchasing another as I like having the turbo brightness being my default setting. Now to figure out whether I want a PD10+ or PD20+ (PD30 was a bit long for my pocket carrying tastes), hmmmm :)

Thanks for the input!

Been carrying a P2D Rebel for 2 years, and sometimes tighten it down for days at a time. I've never had that problem either.

if you would like to see a great real world comparison of different lights, I suggest you check this site out here: http://fonarevka.lux-rc.com/

click on the lights on the right hand side and the setting/brightness level on the bottom right of screen

Awesome link Fish - thanks :) Wish they had a few other brands as well, but definitely a really cool reference for the lights they have listed :D

Have had a Fenix L1Tv2 in my pack for 1.5-2yrs now. Use it for bicycle commuting after dark (mostly winter months) and it sees almost exclusive Turbo use without issue...

The new 4sevens Quarks are really nice too. I have both the Fenix and the quarks and I prefer the quarks simply due to the moonlight ultra low setting. I'd imagine Fenix would offer you a replacement. That's the nice thing about these new era LED flashlights. Back in the day, if you lost a surefire you'd be up a creek but now it isn't nearly as bad. Still $65 or so but that's a lot better than $250.

I've had my Fenix PD30 for about 4 months now. I also carry it on Turbo. But, I set it by turning it on in regular mode and then turn the bezel until turbo mode comes on, I don't turn it all the way until it stops. Haven't had any trouble going between regular and turbo mode.

I don't know if maybe you cranked the bezel all the way and damaged something by using too much pressure, although I doubt it. This is the first time I've ever heard of that problem, so I'd say it's probably a lemon.
