I am seeing the local dealers stock the Fenix PD31 R5 limited edition. Any reviews on this light? The few i find said the throw isn't good and has a ring.

I am looking for a new EDC, I have a TX21 and it's awesome just a little too large to carry in my pant pockets. Any other recommendations with similar specs and price ($80)?

Brightness - 250-300 lumens
1 x 18650 battery or 2 x CR123
Size - can put in pocket with limited bulge
Weight - 60-80 grams with no battery
Durability - Type III hard-anodized

Quark 123^2? It's 200lumens, but you won't be able to tell a 20-33% decrease in output.

Fenix's lumen ratings are "bulb" lumens, meaning they go by the manufacturers' ratings for the wattage they're powered at. That's not the same as measure the actual "out the front" lumens, which is how Quarks are measured. The Fenix might say it's 250 lumens, but it's probably closer to 200 OTF. I'll second the recommendation for the Quark 123². You can get it in a "regular" version with a reverse clicky switch and pre-programmed settings, or the "tactical" version with a forward clicky and programmable settings. A 18650 won't fit, but a 17670 will. The Quarks are very well made; nicer than Fenix IMO. Not quite Surefire nice, but they're a fraction of the cost and unlike Surefire, Quark (and Fenix) stays on the bleeding edge of LED technology.

I have a PD31 as an EDC, and I'm fairly pleased with it. The beam does have a noticeable ring though, due to the smooth reflector. I don't pocket carry. I use a home-brew holster with a Comp-Tac clip.

I have a PD31 and I like it a lot. It's a much sturdier and grippier construction than the previous P3D incarnation. The beam isn't perfect on a white wall, but you'd never notice in actual use. I can't compare it to the Quarks, which also have a good reputation, but it's a great light that I expect you'd be happy with.

Another vote for the Quark lights. My Titanium mini 123 Quark goes everywhere with me.
