Disclaimer: I purchased this flashlight and the following video is not monetized.

I was talking to a friend who was going to Africa for volunteer work. He's not into flashlights and didn't want to take a charger with him, because didn't know if he would have access to electricity. That made me think about the good old AA batteries again. Unfortunately for him, I found this light after he had left.

I think it's great for the everyday person who needs a versatile general use light. For all you lumen junkies, this isn't the light for you. It only puts out 350 lumens on turbo. But it has a focus/zoom feature that actually produces good usable light. From floodlight to spotlight, the light produces good illumination for different situations.

I did some volunteer work in the Philippines, and visited some areas where electricity wasn't always available. Since I rely heavily on my computer and phone when traveling, I always take a Goal Zero solar panel and their AA/AAA charger/battery pack. The charger has a light on it too, which I used at night to see paths on a remote island. Additionally, the battery charger also functions as a battery backup for phones and such.

Very nice set up! Where abouts were you in the Philippines? I love that place. People are so friendly, almost everyone speaks English, and it's so beautiful. Was the charger enough to charge your laptop?

For that trip, I stayed in the Metro Manila area for awhile, traveled around Ilocos Sur for awhile, and took a side trip to Palawan. I have slightly different phone/tablet/computer gear now, than when I took the pic. That small solar panel was able to separately charge my Galaxy 3, 7" Nook Tablet, and 10" Asus Vivotab Smart, as long as they were off when plugged into it. I only tried charging my phone off of the battery pack so I don't know how well it would have charged my tablets. One issue though... Either charging off of the solar panel or the battery pack (or the solar panel hooked up to the battery pack hooked up to a phone/tablet) creates a lot of heat. Add in the hot sun, or the hot/humid climate in the Philippines, and I had to check my equipment every so often while charging for heat issues. Even while charging my phone off the GZ battery backup in my pack, it still got pretty hot.

This isn't necessarily an issue solely with solar panels or battery backups. More recently I took a road trip through the SW (USA) with no AC in my car. Charging my phone off of the car's accessory port while using the phone's GPS for directions going through Nevada at 110F with no AC caused my phone to give off a heat warning and automatically turn off to save the battery/phone from heat damage.
