Got my mother a purple Fenix E05 for Easter. She decided to put it on her keychain, no big deal. Well, it hasn't been on long and it's stopped working. She didn't mention any big drops or abuse, so surprising from a Fenix. Of course, I got it off a dealer on Ebay from China, so it would probably cost at least $10 to ship back for exchange, no? (Lesson learned.)

If E05s aren't cut out for keys, I might just replace it with a cheaper "indestructible" E01. She's not a flashaholic anyways, just something for rare use.

Any thoughts? I've cleaned the contacts which weren't dirty, and the head from my E05 works on it, so it must be the chipset... :(

I've had one on my key ring for over a year; it even had a alkaline leak in it. I cleaned it out, and it runs fine.

Just a personal thing but I would never order anything from China for any reason. Too much chance of it being a fake and as you have discovered DOA! You do not say where you are located but if in the states I'd buy from a dealer in the states, that way it would have a valid warranty to fall back on.

I don't mind China for flashlights, because that is where many name brands are made. But yeah, it makes returns a pain in the...

Looks like she's probably getting an E01. My trust in the E05 is somewhat diminshed.

I've carried an E05 on my keychain for 2 or 3 years now. I've dropped it and my keys countless times onto concrete and other surfaces. It is scuffed but it works like new.

Every manufactured product is going to have a fail rate of some level. Its very possible the one you got had a bad chip connection, or a weak LED. Mine is still going strong, and I abuse the everliving crap out of it. Most of the anodizing is gone on the peaks of the knurling, and the knurling on the head is actually wearing down.

Your should have a serial number etched onto the side of the head. I would contact fenix directly about warranty. It sucks that you ended up with a bad one, but its bound to happen eventually. Hopefully you get a good response from them. Let us know how it goes.

I had three Fenix EO1's. One died within a year and my Son's lasted a little longer. I am not sure whether my Wife's still works, I assume so. I won't say they are junk, but I'm not a fan.

Good news. I spoke with Fenix's U.S. operations and their Chinese HQ by phone/email and they said they'd send a new head for the light. May take some time depending on where it comes from, but at least it doesn't appear to cost me anything.
