Fenix P2D Rebel or CREE (or suggestions!)

I am looking to get a nice light that I can drop in my pocket and forget about. I have read lots of good things about the fenix lights and decided to go with them since it seems you get a lot for the money. My budget is about $60 so I should be able to get about any of their lights.

I have looked them over and decided I like the P2D because of the light output and runtimes. I would rather have an AA light but the increased brightness has convinced me to get the CR123 version.

I see they have just come out with a version that has the new Rebel LED which claims to have higher output and the same runtime. I have read they are also suppose to have a better color and beam pattern. Have these been out long enough to opt for this version or should I get the CREE version which has been out a little longer and a couple bucks cheaper?

I am also open to other suggestions for a light with similar characteristics. All the modes in the fenix are not a big deal for me but I'm willing to live with them. A high and low setting would be fine. I was also going to post this on candlepower forums but I am awaiting account approval. So if there are any flashlight junkies here I would love to have your thoughts. Thanks!

I got my P2D 100 on Friday. I don't have a P2D to compare it to, but the beam is very white, the throw is awesome, and it is a bit smaller than my E1E which was my EDC.

I was thinking the same thing, and I am glad I dropped the extra couple bucks.

If you are willing to spend the bit of extra, the Rebel 100 series are definitely worth it in their tone and overall output.

The only advantage Crees have over Rebels is that their dies dissipate heat better. But for a well-designed flashlight, the Rebels perform without problems.

I just picked up one of the Rebel P2D, and it is bright as hell, great white beamshot, no donut. I don't have a cree to compare it too, but it is much brighter than the Surefire e2d and e2l I had. Great cheap edc light!

Thanks for the replies!

I went ahead and ordered the Rebel version. Now comes the dreaded wait...

Oh great.... I just bought a L2D Cree and love it long time and they come out the next month with a even newer, better, 'More Improved' model? Where have I heard this before?

60 bucks? You dont say.... here we go again! ;)

From what I have read, I would order the P2D since you already have the L2D. This way you get the upgraded head and the battery tubes are interchangeable so you can run either the AA or the CR123 for what looks like almost twice the output in turbo. Just a thought!
