Fenix PD31

Yup same light, although it does appear to not be in stock at Knifecenter. The PD31 was a limited edition release, iirc only 1000 were produced. The seller may be banking on that and hoping someone will pay through the roof to get one. The shipping charge just adds insult to injury. :barf:

Edit: To the OP request, maybe look at the upcoming Zebralight SC600 or Spark Tech SL6. Both will have the XM-L emitter and be noticeably brighter than the PD31, although they will be slighty bigger and a bit more expensive (~25 more than your price).

Am I missing something or are they the exact same light?

Wow, glad I got one in time! I paid $78 shipping included to Canada from Amazon seller "EAZ Sales and Marketing LLC", aka "Endless_Possibilitiez" but I'm not seeing any listed there anymore.

I hope you do find one though, it's a great light. The only reason I got one is because it takes the 18650 rechargables as I don't really use my 2xCR123 lights much anymore.

The PD31 was a limited production light. Most dealers only got a few of them. If that's the price range you want to be in, go with the regular PD30. The difference in the 50 lumens isn't nearly what you would expect it to be. It's easy to think the difference between 0 and 50 lumens...that's a LOT. but when you start getting into those output ranges, the difference between the PD30 and PD31's output would be just perceptible due to the logarithmic way the eye perceives light.

I have the Jetbeam ST-III PRO which also uses 18650 cells. Its rated to a max of 225 lumens. I can say it has terrific throw and 225 seems to be puh-lenty of light to me. It features Broad Voltage Circuitry so you can run two 123a's, two RCR123a's or one 18650 in it. It costs around $75.

Jetbeam do have one of their RRT lights with the adjustable output ring that runs on 18650 cells. That is rated up to around 300 lumens. Check out True North Knives for more info.

Thanks for the comparison pics.

Thanks for the comparison pics.

You're welcome. Hey I thought these weren't available any more but looks like they are. Check out the Lumapower D-Mini VX Ultra at Battery Junction. 550 lumens should meet your needs!
I've got one and it's pretty nice, but a bit bigger than the PD31 and it's $99. You'll need 18650 rechargeables but it's worth it for the extra output and long term savings on replacing lithiums.

EDIT: Here's a pic for size comparison. The Lumapower is the 2nd from the Right and I've got the 18650 battery tube on it. It came with the RCR123 battery tube also but they don't really recommend using that battery for long term use and I've never used it either.

I like the pocket clip on the PD31. If the PD30 had it I would definitely go with that.

LOL, glad to help man. You think this is a lot? Go over to CPF (CandlePowerForums) and you'll see what big collections look like. BF members Planterz and PowerNoodle are also on CPF and last time I checked those guys have some serious collections and knowledge of lights! I have a few more that aren't in this pic but it's still nothing compared to others.

Check out that Lumapower, it's a cool and BRIGHT little light. It has a green GITD power button and ring by the lens which charges every time you turn on the light. It doesn't come with a holster but Fenix has a universal holster with rotatable belt clip (model AB02) that should work with the Lumapower.

Good luck in your quest for your light.

I did a comparison of the Fenix PD31 and the Thrunite Neutron 2C. I preferred the Thrunite:

I ordered the new Jetbeam BA20 from Storl a few days back and I love it. 270 lumens for 1h 45 min on high, and 30 lumens for 35 hours on low. Being a 2xAA light it's a little longer than the PD30, but the batteries are cheaper and more common, and the price of the light is a very reasonable $40. It doesn't have all the strobe modes and 5+ brightness settings that some of the more expensive models have, but to me its simplicity is refreshing and the quality is excellent at its price point.
