When and why would you use F.C. . Its not that I havent used the search button. Its that I learn better by asking the question and receive a strait forward answer. I have found tons of articles on how to use it, but just do not know why to use it... Any help would be nice. :D

You use it to etch steel. For instance, you have a Damascus blade you have made and heat treated. An etch in FC will eat away at the softer steel and leave the harder steel. This shows off the pattern.

Example #2

You have made a knife with either a clay coated blade or just edge quenched. An etch does the same thing and will show the temper line.

Example #3

You made a carbon steel knife and want to darken the steel. Etch in FC.
