Where do you guys get your ferro rods from?

I have two ESEE/RAT Fire kit rods. they throw a glob like nothing i have seen. My LMF rods throw sparks, which is ok, and i have bought some rods from a couple of online stores. but it seems to be a hit or miss on if they just throw sparks, or actuall globs of molten steel like the ESEE rods.

Do you have a favorite place you buy from that the rods always seem topline and good molten glob throwers:eek:? lol

I want to build a couple of ferro rods with holders, but i want to make sure i use real good ferro rods.

sorry if this is not the right place to post. Is it deal pushing if i ask you guys where you recommend buying from\?

thanks

And one more for going gear. I have ordered a few rods from them, and I've always been happy with what I got. Never once been even slightly disappointed.

yup, goinggear.com. specifically look for misch metal rod not the regular ferrocerium rod.

Going Gear is definitely the place to be getting your Mischmetal rods. Throw globs of metal for a great price.

It looks like everyone has already said it, but what the heck Ill throw my two cents in also.

Going Gear is the place to go !!!:)

Anyone mention Going Gear? As far as hit and miss experiences you may want to experiment with different strikers and techniques.

+10 goinggear!!

I bought one firesteel (misch metal) and one striker from goinggear for each competitor at a special Cowboy Action Shooting Annual event that I'm the match director for (see thread below for details).

Out of almost 50 people, I only heard of one or two that could used the firesteel and resorted to matches.

Here is a thread with pic's of a custom firesteel handle I made for myself:

I don't know, that Going Gear owner guy seems kind of shifty.

Thanks for the recommendations, guys. As always, we aim to please.

Guess I have to go against the grain here. With everyone recommending Going Gear, I need to give the Boy Scouts and their Hot Spark firestarter (if they still use it) the nod. Very inexpensive and since I've been using them for a lot of years and am fully confident in their ability to start a fire, they are definitely worth a look.

Starting to feel like the going gear fan club here :)

Another fan. I've bought a few from Going Gear. Its a sickness. I have a couple that I use yet I buy more. Its like Catcher in the Rye in that Mel Gibson movie.

I end up giving them away to people that don't have one most of the time. Gave one to the neighbor a couple weeks ago.
