Ferro Strikers / PSK tools Make 1

Some of you have seen the developments of my little tools and I have moved along and refined the design. The blanks are water jet cut only because the design is too complex and too time consuming for me to profile by hand.

They are made from 1/8" 1095 and are 3.0625" long and approx. 0.75" at the widest point. The cutting edge is about 1.25". They weigh in at about 0.4 ounces without wrap or sheath.

There is a area on the top for striking your firesteels, but the spine is pretty square so you should be able to toss sparks using any side. These are designed to be the ultimate little PSK kit tool. My 2nd prototype did very good in testing and had much more function than your standard ferro striker(LMF) / hacksaw blades.

I haven't found the best way to sheath these little guys, but there is one pictured that has a small kydex, which will probably be the route I go and I have more kydex inbound in the next day or so. I can do leather too, but I'm still fiddling with the pattern.

In the last couple of pics, there is one handle wrapped with 250lb cordage and one wrapped with 50lb braided spiderwire fishing line, which are finishing options. I have left 5 of the first six with the heat treat / temper scale on and did one with more of a hand finish. I haven't ground the tip of the hook and pretty much left it flat, but I may swedge that part too.

I have pictured the most comfortable and usable hand holds, but it's pretty diverse from a two finger grip to a great scraping and skinning grip.

Whatca all think?

As i stated when you posted your first one. I love this little guy and would love to get my hands on one. Please lemme know if thats possible. Thanks

Mike

Very cool. I'd like info on getting one too.

The only question I have is the reasoning behind the sharp point aimed at your fingers. I'd be a bit nervous of that. Probably could just round that our a bit unless there's a real use for it.

Well, while I find your name a little off-putting, I still find the design very appealing! :p:D

dude.. these are sooo cool... such a unique design...

you know i want one... :D put me down for one, if they're not all spoken for...

Well I took the plunge and upgrade myself to knifemaker, so I can sell now, Yipee.

I go by Centerfinger on every other forum so I will be changing my name over as soon as Spark can get to it.

The first run was 16 units and I only have a handful left. If you would like more details and pricing, PM or email me. I can turn out another batch in a few weeks only because I'm heading out for vacation next week.

Pretty cool little strikers... not sure about the hook design (only because I am a clutz and would probably find a way to hurt myself on it). Looks like it works great, and it must be very light.

Kind of reminds me of a tool that could be used by a trapper. Just sharpen the top hook to gut small kritters. Maybe even strip a tail out.

I have had request to do that, I figure it optional. I need to test it because to get good pressure with tough cuts you really need to put your thumb in that area on the spine.

I maybe sold outa this first run, but keep PM'ing if your interested.

Sign me up for one! I have a couple of pesky Warrant Officers that may need some harpooning here in Afghanistan:D

They look great!

I like it.

Two changes I'd like to see:

1) as mentioned, I don't like the pointy part in front of the thumb rest;

2) I'd prefer if the hole was large enough to put a finger through it.

Nice. Well done. Good thinking. I look forward to seeing further development of this.
