Some of you have seen the developments of my little tools and I have moved along and refined the design. The blanks are water jet cut only because the design is too complex and too time consuming for me to profile by hand.
They are made from 1/8" 1095 and are 3.0625" long and approx. 0.75" at the widest point. The cutting edge is about 1.25". They weigh in at about 0.4 ounces without wrap or sheath.
There is a area on the top for striking your firesteels, but the spine is pretty square so you should be able to toss sparks using any side. These are designed to be the ultimate little PSK kit tool. My 2nd prototype did very good in testing and had much more function than your standard ferro striker(LMF) / hacksaw blades.
I haven't found the best way to sheath these little guys, but there is one pictured that has a small kydex, which will probably be the route I go and I have more kydex inbound in the next day or so. I can do leather too, but I'm still fiddling with the pattern.
In the last couple of pics, there is one handle wrapped with 250lb cordage and one wrapped with 50lb braided spiderwire fishing line, which are finishing options. I have left 5 of the first six with the heat treat / temper scale on and did one with more of a hand finish. I haven't ground the tip of the hook and pretty much left it flat, but I may swedge that part too.
I have pictured the most comfortable and usable hand holds, but it's pretty diverse from a two finger grip to a great scraping and skinning grip.
Whatca all think?
