ferrocium rods

If I'm not using matches or a lighter I usually use flint and steel. With decent tinder and char cloth I can get fire in under a minute. (usually 30-40 seconds)

I've seen a bunch of posts talking about ferrocium rods. I assume that they are the same thing as used in those blast matches. (I keep meaning to get one of those!) Anyway, who sells these rods? They sound like just the ticket for an easy fire.

Anyone here do bow drills? I used to be pretty good with them but I haven't tried one in years. I learned to do them at Tom Brown's school using cedar.

Here's a big one at a reasonable price.

Greg has some nice ones here:

And Bagheera was offering a GREAT deal on his ferrocium rods. Don't know if he has any left though.

Hi Jaeger:

The ferrocerium rods are the way to go for a fast fire since they will ignite common natural tinders such as birch or cedar bark directly. I put up some comparisons at: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/Rapids/5404/survival/

My final preference was for just a rod rather than a rod in a plastic housing such as the Strike Force or Blastmatch - just a question of portability for me.
Greg and Bagheera have reasonable shipping prices - read the fine print with other companies.

I'm drying some willow now for a friction set - wish me luck!
