Hello folks and yes I am new to the forum and thanks for having me. I recently made a makeshift meat clever from an armature plate and was curious if anyone would know if the material is actually good for knives? I work on trailers and got the plate from a 10k lb drum and thought it would be good for knives or hatchets. The material is heavy and 3/16 inches thick. It took a couple of cutting disc's to cut out the shape but got it done. I hardened it also after heating it up with my acetylene torch. It came out pretty hard. I'm just curious if anyone has ever used that material before. Thank you all..

Probably best to post in the Knifemakers section. You can ask a moderator to move the thread.

Could it have been hardened Before you started?

You mean a "brake armature"?

Welcome KennyUI. Fill out your profile so we know where you live and something about you.

My checking shows it is unlikely a good metal for a knife. Probably some sort of Al-Nl-Co alloy.
Th best way to find out what the alloy is is to call or email the tech department at Al-Ko

Alois Kober GmbH
